Yes, but it can, and will be, waved for operational needs. I bet the vacancy that comes out this month will be the first one where that happens.

There is currently 2 years and 6 months left to the retention bonus. It doesn't expire until 12/31/2018.
Worst case scenario, if they choose to not a) extend the bonus or b) increase their pay, then, yes, in 2019 you would be making 3rd year FO hourly pay only. I highly doubt that occurs, but that is currently the only thing "guaranteed". It's still a year and a half more bonus (and a bigger one at that) than anyone else is offering.

You're likely to only see pay improvements down the road and when these contractual bonuses expire. I wouldn't be surprised to not only see them extended; but perhaps improved as well. The airline is doing far too good to start gettin cheap with their pilots and revert back to their former state. As of today and the foreseeable future, 9E is a good place to be.
