Ha I don't think it's that serious. It's nice to have but I can deal with just having the regular taxi chart and being heads up vs carrying a 40lb flight bag around and having to commute with it when you get back into base with only enough to to run to the gate.

Having done both paper, then ipad, now back to paper, I'm in the paper camp. It's much easier to find what you need in the paper and quicker to switch back and forth between a STAR, approach chart and taxiway diagram. But again, just personal opinion.

And, assuming we get Surfaces of some kind, because well, you know we will, paper doesn't crash all the time.

I liked Foreflight in GA for its simplicity. Select any plates you need, add them to a folder and there you go. Select arrival, airport diagram, approaches and just select whatever you need from the folder. Nothing complex or easy to break. Haven't had a look at the Surfaces XJT/SKW use but opinions are mixed.

I like a clip so I can just flip straight from approach to taxi diagram, done in a second and no heads down time. If we had paper ship sets I'd be thrilled.

So a February 2016 hire could hire a MSP line next month?

Yeah, but what happens if you need a new set of charts because you spilled coffee on them?

Cheaper than spilling coffee on the iPad or Surface

Just pour coffee into the electrical outlet and use that as the reason for being not up to date! Make sure the coffee is cold though before you show the CP.
