It seems like most bases have still been available, even if hiring was aimed at one more than the others.

Why so horrible out of DTW and MSP? I thought jumpseat and boarding priority was superior at 9E. Unless of course, everybody is doing it and so it's a clusterfk.

You have a lot more airlines flying LA to NYC. More options = easier commute.

With -200 and -900 in all bases going forward, bid for the -200 in your choice of base. Once you hold the base you want on the -200, bid the -900 in the base you want once you DO hold a LINE there.

DO NOT bid for an aircraft over a base. Get your base, then seniority, THEN the aircraft. The -900 is nice, but a line and easier commute will result in higher pay and QOL. Same with upgrades. Too many folks are concerned with the AC and completely miss QOL and pay in the process. 75 hour guarantee on reserve for the -900 makes far less net compared to a line on the -200, with more days off to boot. It's the same type rating folks. We aren't talking a B747 vs C152 here.

I'll bet $20 that in 12-18 months, it's all one category (dual qual) and Co-domicile in NYC anyway. Fly the -200, move to the -900, and take the first upgrade. If nothing else, when you sit in the left seat, everything is familiar.

Guys/Gals don't worry about where you will be based out of training. Within 3-6 mos you would be able to hold any of them. As you get hired a FO upgrades, opening up a (senior) slot from MSP or DTW. Attrition 20-25 CA's/mo. plus 1.5 new ac/mo 12-14 CA. that's 30-40 fo's upgrading per month.

Thanks for the good information. So by that logic, wanting MSP, I would bid:

200-MSP
200-DTW
200-NYC
900-MSP
900-DTW
900-NYC

Correct? Starting Monday. Thanks again!

Also, I should mention that holding a line is more important to me than having MSP right off the bat.

Well, you've got two competing priorities there. If you value having a line quickly the highest, then bid the -200 in whatever order of base preference you want, as you did in your example. If you value having MSP right off the bat, then bid -200 MSP first, then -900 MSP, then the other -200 bases, then the other -900 bases.

If you want MSP because you live near there, I would try to get MSP in either aircraft over having a line quickly. Having a line quickly is nice, but it can't make up for the amount of suck that commuting to reserve is versus being on reserve in base even if it's for a longer time. If you're commuting either way, then go for what will get you a line quicker.
