Indeed.
I am yet to understand why anyone would use a printer for anything. Every thing is in the FMS and can be brought up for interrogation at anytime...and with black background and white lettering and the ability to adjust the light for easy reading, why waste time printing. Printing ATIS is just not practical. In 'One FMS' plane, I can see the advantage of printing Clearance...oh well. You get me drift.
However, writing down Taxi/other ATC instruction is something I always do (Ask the two major US airline pilots who didn't and ended up face-to-face with Lufthansa 747-800. Also the US Regional duo who decided to face-off Singapore A380 at JFK because they did not write down JFK Ground instructions).

Depends on your relative age in class. My class had several JFK/LGA awards among the upper half of the seniority list. The bottom half all got DTW. At any rate, don't stress too much. If you don't get your first choice right out of the gate, chances are good you could get it in a few months.

If you suck up to the captain and obediently keep folding the paper she/he wants, than it's an issue with your confidence. But, if you feel, and act like a office assistant/secretary more than a pilot, by all means do so!
