Because the current instructors can't keep up with the training pipeline and we have CRJ's not have ERJ's. If Delta wants to hire DGS instructors to teach on the ERJ, then that is Deltas decision. The E170/190 is a common type, so if Delta decides to add the E170 at Delta, they already have some people to teach it. But our contract says that only seniority list pilots can teach lessons beyond MT5 in the sim and only seniority list instructors or the FAA can give checking events. So you can see that even if DGS is trained to teach Endeavor Air pilots on the ERJ, no one will be able to take a checkride until our instructors are trained on the ERJ. On the 900 side of training, we are going to lose 10 instructors to Delta over the next 6 months. It takes 2 ,on the to get an instructor qualified. We currently cannot keep up. So, CAE and Endeavor have signed a contract for CAE instructors to be trained on our procedures to teach Endeavor Air pilots up through PT and MT. All LOS training is done by seniority list instructors.

It seems like we are saying the same thing. Or at least I think so. I never said the DGS guys were here to teach the ERJ; they will be CRJ instructors to try and keep up with the current influx of new hires.
I wouldn't think Delta would send ERJ contractors to 9E to have them learn to fly/teach the CRJ sims. That would take an ERJ instructor out of the DL pipeline to be trained to teach the CRJ sim. Mo betta to train a new hire DGS old guy to teach the CRJ the 9E way.

The training department has experienced an enormous talent vacuum in the last year and it's only going to get worse. Not saying the folks that remain aren't great, but I wonder if it would be possible for Endeavor mgmt, Delta management, and both ALPA's to sit down and work out a deal whereby our instructors that hold CJO's could effectively start at Delta with a seniority date, paycheck and phantom base and AC but remain in the 9E training department. It would be a win-win-win-win and I honestly believe that there's no way in hell we can pull off the kind of growth that is rumored without something like this in place. When seniority list training (or management for that matter) positions turnover every six to nine months, there is no continuity and nobody to take the long view. The quality of the program has already suffered and will continue to. As it stands right now, if you expect to leave for Delta in the next 6-9 months it doesn't even make sense to apply to be an instructor. If you are currently trying to get an interview somewhere else, you need to be out flying for currency. If you have a CJO as an FO you don't have time to upgrade and than become a LCA or APD before your class date. And for those remaining, many that would make excellent instructors don't live in MSP and aren't willing to be away from their families for that long. So obviously the pool is small and getting smaller. If Delta doesn't figure something out, there won't be anybody to teach the new planes let alone fly the things. I know they've always resisted "holdback" provisions however this is not a holdback, this is a seniority list Delta pilot working in a company training department. If, and this is a big if, ego's could be set aside, it makes total sense.

That post is extremely accurate on all points: current status and future concerns. Unfortunately, while I think your solution is a viable one, I don't see it being executed. They may have to go more similar to the DGS they've brought in: Guys with a wealth of experience, but an age which takes them out of cockpit chasing. In the long run that's not good for progression opportunities of 9E crew members but for the short term it's a wise move. Besides, long runs at regionals barely seem worth planning for?

I haven't inquired, but last was said the plan was 4 rather evenly spaced large vacancies throughout the year. I could see (personal opinion) 2 smaller vacancies through the peak summer months to limit TDY needs and facilitate move dates and block hour balancing. But that's just an opinion. Havent poked around for more answers since 16-02.
