Min Uber fare for that part of Michigan is $5.40

Besides picking up at DTW at the airport itself puts a surcharge. If you're gonna go from DTW to Fedex...

If we are completing the 07-08 hires for upgrades, how do 7 people not have their 2500/1000 to upgrade?

Military leave I am guessing. I know one person who was in that situation.

Can anyone tell me how requesting military leave works? I'll be a reservist and most likely need to drill once a month. Is this time requested while you're bidding for the next month? Or is it requested well in advance of that? Do they explain all this during training? Is it possible to drill during training if needed? Thanks.

I'm in the same boat as you, but I'll be in the guard. You should get the drill schedule for the whole fiscal year, or at least most of it and I would just submit that to the schedulers. I have heard they are very easy to work with. During training, you might be able to work with the reserve unit you're in to be excused from drill, but endeavor will also positive space you to your home airport on 48 hour breaks, which could work to make it to drill on time. I am planning on not taking any mil leave during training and just going to drill for those weekends. Your reserve wing will also pay for hotel rooms on Friday and Saturday night if you need them.

Metro cab charges a minimum fare of $15 and takes 10 mins. The guys in the ramp office can be pretty busy and get a bit grumpy if you show later than one hour before hand. If you are running behind they are ok with that if you give them a heads up. DTW fedex ramp number is 7347842163. I catch flight 1218 to MEM and then on to Denver or Wichita. Flights are always on time. The FedEx drivers are always super nice and helpful. If you have any other questions let me know on here or PM.
Thanks I definitely appreciate the help. We ended up being delayed and got in too late for any cargo options. I'm pretty sure I'll have to use fedex or UPS sometime in the future though.

Don't forget about DHL as an option now. It looks like they've shifted the flying from TOL up to DTW, on Atlas

You actually arrange it with the base manager, before the monthly bid period opens. You can submit your yearly schedule if you want or go month to month. If you're going on TDYs or a longer term leave that requires orders, you submit those. I never had any problems with getting time off, even on a few occasions where I forgot to submit the request until during, or even after, the bid period. They've also been pretty cool about getting me the time off even if I didn't have orders in hand by bidding time but knew they were on the way. The base manager in MSP is a former Air Force crewmember, so he "gets it." I have heard that guys in other bases have had occasional issues. With all that said, even though the law says they HAVE to give you the time off for military duty, it doesn't mean you can call them up the day before a TDY you've known about for weeks and not expect a little blowback.
