What the hell are universities going to do with a retired CR2? Don’t they understand that all these 20 year old airline applicants want to fly big shiny E175s?

Most of the schools have more than Pilot programs. They would be useful for maintenance, et al programs.

Our tech ops will prep them for flight. Once donated, I have no idea. Probably won’t be our problem anymore.

It should be an asset transfer/donation so the schools will take over their care. I don’t think they will ever fly again once the transactions are complete.

This is correct. It will be kind of like “non-op” car registered. It will no longer be airworthy but fully functional.

UND was given a FedEx three holer many years ago, they had no use for it and gave it to the GFK ARFF who uses it for mass casualty and emergency drills. AA did the same thing with their 767 that flew an engine at ORD a few years ago, donated it to the Chicago FD. A lot of money to be saved in donating than just scrapping.

Mostly this is a tax write off. What the college does with the planes I think delta won’t care. Purdue has a Crj2 out at their airport. Lewis university has a 737 from United and several delta Dc9s are are all over the country.

But bottom line, tax season is right around the corner.

Ha, but I don't see the problem here. FedEx donated a bunch of 727's. There's nothing to see here.

If you're in your twenties{EDIT: or any age for this matter} and want to go to the majors quickly, I'd suggest attending one of these. Also, you'll be far more valuable to the legacies with Spirit time in your logbook.

Spirit Airlines is holding multiple “Meet The Chiefs” events throughout November. For pilots interested in flying for Spirit, this is a great chance to get an introduction to the company. Email [email protected] to RSVP

I wasn't able to make it to the airport today to meet the CEO and COO. Anbody gain any info worth sharing by chatting with them? I'm sure they were asked when the announcement is and what the plan is over and over. Did anybody get any info out of them?
