Sounds like you’ve got your first sick call planned out

If it's a life event they'd work with you. For a vacation, it's probably just going to be up to your seniority and swapping reserve days or trips as appropriate. I'm no at 9E anymore but contrary to allusions, I would not call in sick to go on a vacation, and especially not while you're on probation. I imagine you have a fair shot of making it work, but you might need to offer some money to someone to pick up work days from you if you can't hold the schedule otherwise.

5 months in I could hold whatever days off I wanted (on reserve obviously). Even Christmas and New Year’s Day. LGA 900 FO

Not to be politically incorrect here or anything, but it seems PTSD would be a disqualifying psychological condition for a first class medical? Or maybe any medical. Especially if one needs the use of a dog. Of course this is spoken by someone completely ignorant of PTSD and degrees of it, how it's treated, etc.

I argued with the union about this. I said "I meet the requirements in section 24 H right?" Which is phrased "The only minimum qualifications that shall be established are the following minimum qualifications for Upgrade to any Captain position.... " and they said well the company can have additional requirements when they are regulatory.

The 1000 121 is only required for acting as PIC, not for upgrade, but the company and union keep calling it a "regulatory upgrade requirement." I've flown the left seat in the sim before in initial, and for that matter I wouldn't even be PIC during OE, so there's an additional 25 hours anyway. Oh well, I have enough hours now so hopefully I can get in on this supplemental captain vacancy.

Nope, you’re spot on. Dude gets to bring his dog places I can’t because he needs it for PTSD therapy? With it 100%.

Flying the jet? GTFO.

I second this. If you're in NYC on the 900 there is such a large pool of reserves there the scheduling flexibility is pretty good. You should be a mid seniority reserve pilot 5.5 months in and with 12 days off a month there is no reason you wouldn't be able to get at least 6 consecutive days off unless it was over the holidays or spring break. No pbs whiz here but I think enabling 6 consecutive days of work might help.

Yep enable six days and allow single day off and you can pool your dates to have big chunks of time off. It works very will living in base, probably would suck for commuters since you’d be gone from home longer stretches.

HORRIBLE advice for a NH on probation. Please tell us you’re joking?

Do you live on these boards and comment on everyone’s posts? Been a member 2 years and 2,000+ posts, wow.

Seriously though, try to bid it off, maybe you get some if not all, then try to trade days with open time or someone to get more, then possibly pony up the money to someone to cover your days. Or you can be unprofessional like me and just not bid it off, unfortunately develop an illness and be smart enough to not use your travel benifits or KCM during your sickcation.
