I was looking at flights the other day and a retiree was listed as s4 which I found strange.

That's definitely him. I'm going to refrain from sharing my thoughts on him because it would definitely result in a violation on this site. I'm blown away he can still get a medical, he's a rather large unhealthy looking fella

He didn't just look for loopholes in the contract, he would look for ways that he could "interpret" clauses to allow him to do whatever he wanted. An obvious one of course is that anything that said "best effort" meant that "no effort is the best effort we are going to put into this" etc. He made it his life to try to pick apart the contract in ways that were beyond belief. Even clear language text wasn't safe. And since the policy is "fly now and grieve later" he would simply state that when something was complete off the wall.


It was bad enough that the union used negotiating capital to write into the contract that he was never again to be allowed to be involved in pilot contract administration or interpretation. It might even have been that he couldn't be in management.


Company messed up your pay? "David White says you aren't actually owed that."

Company made you do something that is completely against the contract? "David White says you are always free to grieve it later."

Trying to get the company to do something that they'd done per the contract for years? "David White says there's no timeline on when that has to be done by, so if we delay long enough you won't need it anymore."


It wasn't just that he tried to screw the pilots out of money. He tried to take away everything, even things that had marginal costs to the company. It was to the point that it seemed he just enjoyed showing off what the company could get away with. Sometimes he'd deny stuff just because it was cheaper to just pay for it later... if the pilot even bothered filling out a grievance. That one person was probably responsible for 90-99% of grievances with the company.
