Yes, a Roth 401K has higher limits, but I believe they are offset by the traditional 401K, are they not? So if one puts $15K into the 401K, then they could only put $3K (+ $6K if they are older) into the Roth 401K. Is this correct?
I like that the Roth 401K is post-tax, especially if one is younger. But it’s not as flexible as either a Roth IRA or a 401K, from my understanding. The Roth 401K must remain as it is, and cannot be converted down the road I think. The main point is... contribute as much as you can afford, and start doing it last year!

Generally good advice however Endeavor offers a Roth 401k as well.
As such if you're interested in a Roth you're better served to do it within the 401k with its associated higher contribution limits (18K vs 5,500). If the 18k doesn't get you to 15% then go to an IRA and then after tax investing. As well, I don't believe the Roth 401k is subject to a max income limit, at some point you lose the ability to contribute to a normal Roth. (In case your spouse makes a lot of money) |

Technically all of it is 401k, so you have an $18k contribution limit for both parts. As you say, if you contribute 15k to a traditional you could only contribute 3K to the Roth. But you COULD contribute 18k to the Roth and ignore the traditional entirely. Traditional and Roth IRA's work the same, 5,500 combined contribution limit between the two. The only caveat on the Roth 401k is the match remains traditional. That's required by the tax code and annoying but no net impact to you vs the traditional 401k

The match would have to be rolled over to a Traditional IRA since it is tax deferred. The main point is... contribute as much as you can afford, and start doing it last year! Absolutely! |

With everyone jumping ship in NYC from 200 to 900 what’s the movement look like right now for people sticking with the deuce?

Open time 200 vs. 900
Thinking about making the jump to the 900. I enjoy a pretty good line now and make good credit after picking up OT. That’s because there’s plenty to be had on the 200. Is it the same deal on the 900? On a scale of work yourself to death if you want to dryer than the desert, what’s the OT pot look like on the heavy in NYC? Is that anticipated to change with the new pay rates?

There’s usually plenty to pick up on the 900. Maybe pick up in another base if you really wanna get crafty.

This month it’s not. In October I picked up a few days and ended up crediting 132hrs with 12days off.

Anyone want to get rid of the the first or last 3 to 4 legs of pretty much any trip this month other than 25/26 DEC? PM me.

This month there is little to no open time for the 900 first officers. I am usually able to credit 130+ hours a month like some of the previous posters but this month is poor. I'm assuming it is a combination of December and being 900 overstaffed in anticipation of more deliveries. Might be better to wait till the dust settles on the deliveries of the 900 and 700 deliveries to move over. |
