If your FOs are flipping switches without telling you, you need to put the smack down on them. That’s unsat...

I stopped caring about stuff like that when I got a call from pro stands about hurting feelings. Lol it’s the world we live in. Usually just turn off the AP and make I‎t work for the silent green needelers. I know you’ve never done that to me cause I think we’re both in ATL if I’m not mistaken and we’ve flown together

Whoa. Looking at these last couple of posts, and...well, I'm hereby outing myself as a silent green needler. I honestly didn't know it was looked at like this, and in retrospect should have recognized it as a pretty prime example of the "everybody is on the same page about what modes the airplane is in" principle. It slowly (and wrongfully) migrated into the "this is obviously what happens next, and is beyond stating" bin for me. Learning has occurred, and I'll stop it starting tomorrow.

I'd hope to be straightened out on something like this in the cockpit, despite what pro stans says. Maybe the way you did it leaves something to be desired, maybe the FO in question needs to learn how to take constructive criticism.

Well, if I did, I apologize. I try not to move switches without announcing it. I am sure I fail sometimes...

As for hurting feelings... hurt away! Screw the feelings, you will make a better pilot outta them. And if they can’t be made better, then they can just be bitter, lol!

What’s the big deal? It’s their PFD. I’d prefer if FOs announce flipping switches such as the cowls or announcing when they’re disconnecting the autopilot. But I don’t lose sleep over it.

Nav to Nav or green needles?
Pilot flying should cover that in the brief. If my FO doesn't I ask them what they want to do. I don't care what method is used just let the other person know what you're planning.

I agree that switching to green needles without announcing it is pretty tame, overall. But I come from a background where both pilots were strongly encourage to mirror one another. That way there was no question as to why something “strange” was showing up for one person and not the other.

But when it comes to moving things such as cowl switches (also pretty tame), to bleeds xfer, etc. I always try to announce what I am doing. Keeps CAs less skittish. And if you fly with someone who is moving things like cowls and BtG without announcing it, what will his next hand movement to the upper console be doing?

About the only thing I move without announcing it is the temps on the packs. But that’s just me.

I agree. Unless they made lots of noise flipping switches, I wouldn’t wake up.

It's certainly polite and keeps the other guy in loop, sure, but I wouldn't at all be offended or care if the other guy/gal went green, turned on/off the cowls/wing without stating it. Sorry to the FOs that have to fly with such sensitive CAs.

On the contrary tho, I have noticed a small handful flipping off the seatbelt sign without asking or announcing it, and even worse, not even making a PA. That, is a bit of a no-no IMO, and would imagine in most's? If someone smacks their head in the back through some CAT when the seatbelt sign is off, the powers at be aren't going to be blowing up the FO's cell on his precious day off. Again, only a small handful I've seen do that. I know a few of our crusty fellows would bite their arm off over that. And I would hate to see someone lose their arm over that.
