As I interpret it, yes. Can flex up to $20K as company sees fit.

Yes, right now it's 10 grand with the company having the ability to increase it to up to 20. Anything more than that will require negotiations with the union. Believe it or not the fact that they actually have to work with the union over new hire bonuses puts us above industry standard for bonuses. Most companies can give whatever they want to new hires without any input from the union.

And then those P1's will get the lovely 5 am wakeup to be converted to CDO flying that night because the night before the P3 was converted to cover day flying. There really needed to be protections on day/night swapping and first and last day start and end times for that give. The reserve abuse I'm seeing in all the reserve rule tweaks isn't worth that one extra day off. And who the hell cares how much a reserve day is worth (raising it to 4 hours) since there is still no credit awarded to a reserve day not called in. All that does is burn more sick time for a day called off.
Strictly speaking about the reserve proposals, take it from a career reserve, they aren't good. Not worth just the one extra day off a month. Maybe if they added in that any unused reserve day also credited 4 hours (or at least say 3.75) then I'd probably say ok but we are making reserve even more awful for one more hard day off. And keep in mind that with one less day of reserve, and still no credit for an unused day, that makes it that much harder to hit the 83 hrs/month to keep the pay from becoming a pay cut.
So people have chosen to be a career reserve, "part-time", pilots with the company, people are upset that the P3 2 on 1 off trick that lets pilots rarely work yet receive guarantee pay loophole is being closed. Folks are also complaining that bidding for a schedule that results in the least possible work will result in a slight decline in pay . Please, I am fairly sure your union even worked to stop this abuse of the system with the new TA. The closing of the 2 on 1 of loophole is great for the pilot group in that it will remove Sr. folks from wanting to stay on reserve get paid not to work resulting in more people flying and fewer people in the credit push giving more people more days off. It will be a better use of company money and resources by making people who get paid full time work full time. For reserve folks the extra day off will be a help, and they get that without giving up any of the guarantee. The addition of long call reserves allowing some Sr. pilots in domicile to bid reserve while putting them in a position to be a productive reserve pilot and allowing line holders to become a bit more Jr. is helpful. The reductions in ready reserve are great as that has been poor use of reserves at the expense of someones time. Longer callouts in NYC and ATL this is huge for out group. The only people who will be hurt by these changes are guys who bid reserve to game the system to try and work as little as possible while getting full pay. I am not talking about the guys who bid days off, I'm talking about the people who cheat to get paid not to work. I think our union and company has done a great job at taking steps to eliminate these abuses of our bidding system.

I think for most commuters, LGA is a better bet than JFK based on number of flights?

How is the new hire hotel for training? Gym? Close to anything? Are you there for 3 weeks?

Different hotels for ground school and sim phase, but both are good. You can walk to food and stuff and they have typical small hotel gyms. Just ask for the top floor. You can hear the stomping elephants above you otherwise.

If you go to PHX for sims, that hotel has an awesome breakfast.

Whether JFK or LGA works is dependent on where you commute from. Both could work for some and only one could work for others. If the ta passes it'll stop all the seniority chasers.

Seriously considering 9E for the eventual ATL base, knowing that NYC will be the first stop. Anyone from ATL care to share whether either airport is any better for the commute not just in terms of frequency but also the ability to actually get on with relative ease if that is at all possible.

LGA is normally best for domestic flight frequency.
