Someone enlighten me:
Does DAL's CBA specifically give DALPA any control over who they hire?
I'm at a AA WO, and my understanding is AA can hire anyone they want, and APA's contract doesn't give them any veto power.
So bring this back to my first question, is it really DALPA that's standing in the way of a flow, or is it company culture?

The retention bonus into the pay rates would be great to cement a new standard which our competitors will have to come up to. Like some of you mentioned earlier, it'll be a "pay war" or whatever. Potentially in 2 years we could find ourselves in the middle of the pack again and then Delta gives us another pay raise when our recruitment numbers are not what they want. I wouldn't be surprised if another regional starts offering $60+ first year FO pay 2 years from now.
No, the union doesn't do the hiring, however, there are contractual provisions to provide furlough protection in the event the mainline furloughs. Thus, you at an AA WO are subject to displacement if AA furloughs pilots to your WO. The reciprocal agreement is a flow up provision when AA is hiring.

My question was more about what the heck does DALPA have to do with a flow up? The company apparently can hire whom they choose.

Wasn't really a question about flow down, and my friend above is right that there is no flow down in effect at PSA. In any event, given the number of retirements AA has Armageddon would literally have to happen for AA to furlough.

The issue with a bonus is when getting a loan (like for a house). Banks will not factor bonus pay as pay unless you've can show you've been getting it for (I think) two years. Some may not even accept it. That drastically lowers the loan amount you're eligible for.

I haven't tried to get a loan with our current bonus, but I have in the past with others. All I had to do to use it as income was proof I was getting it (pay stubs & tax transcripts) and proof of it lasting (copy of the contract).
With the sunset being December 2018, it might be harder to use it, if not impossible.
But it still pays the electric bill (barely).

Yes yes. Nice job. I doubt he can conjure an ounce of humor for recourse. But weirder things can happen. Like flow.
