Maybe from a narrow perspective that could be true. However, the majority do stand and say thank you, myself included. If they don't it's because of short turn times, tail swaps, and food needs. Same reasons I saw for a decade at a regional.

No, the majority of Delta pilots don't. I deadhead evenly on regionals and mainline. Delta pilots barely ever stand in the cockpit and say goodbye. Just sayin.

I've seen both mainline and regional pilots standing up front thanking the cattle. I've even seen both make gate announcements. Seems to be a pretty even ratio between the two groups as well. Huh.. must be all of these "facts" from those that are sure it never happens are inaccurate. Just sayin'.

(But by all means, hats for flow cuz we're better and all.)

You're taking a very small sample and applying to the group as a whole. I commute exclusively on mainline as well as DH mostly on them as you'd expect. I'd say my exposure to this situation is much higher.

If you commute/DH mostly on the 88 and 717, I encourage you to take a look at their schedules. They give RJ schedules a run for their money as far as frequency and turn times.

I have seen mainline pilots standing at the front almost always. Although, I have never seen one give a gate announcement, and I've done well over 1000 hours of ready reserve walking the terminal.

I've given 15 or so GA's over the past year, they are kind of pointless, since the gate agent already made the same announcement 6 times. Whatever Delta wants I guess...

Thank you, thank you, same to you, appreciate your business, thank you. Irrelevant unless the flight sucked!

They are not cattle. Not Delta material.

And that's if they even acknowledge you!

Honest question...

I've seen the numerous posts about gate announcements. Is that something they are requiring of your captains? Or are they "highly encouraged?"

The FOM says "should." And it says Captain, or FO if Captain wants, or in other places, "the Pilot should."

In training they make it seem to be highly encouraged to near mandatory.
