I've been part of this thread for a while now. The only person I've seen mention Comair is APMech. What did I miss?

Well several people in the last couple pages seemed concerned about the future of 9E. Which if the future is in jeopardy they'll likely be able to be at any major before that happens.

So in a discussion about being based in Atlanta, one person was showing how to bid, all the 200 positions first, so that eventually you could end up in Atlanta because there are no 900s there. So how would that work if you were in that class and wanted to be based in Atlanta sooner than later? You just switch from the 900 to the 200?

Right now you can bid down from the 900 -> 200. However, there is a 2 year seat lock if you want to go back to the 900. However, that does not prevent you from upgrading to any base / equipment you can hold.

Also, there is talk that the new contract that is being negotiated currently will incur a 1 year seat lock from date of hire.

Regionals will be around for quite some time, we are being shifted into an ab-intio training ground. Delta has spent the last 12 months in Congress working on getting this through. Once the FAA approves it, Delta will go straight to the top colleges to find its future pilots.

Can you elaborate more on your theory? I'm just curious...

True I have heard the same coming out of the university's. Will become similar to what some of the international carriers have been doing. Hiring zero time guys and bringing them all the way through. Regional airplanes will exist but regional airlines will not. IMO

I look at any 200 growth as negative. Those planes will be parked and then 9E is left with a crap sandwich. Displacements, layoffs etc. I sure hope we get something else in the pipeline. It might be good for the youngsters who think they'll be here for less than 5 years.l, but why in the hell would Delta go recruit ? There is about 15k qualified pilots out there? Shutdown the regionals and bam! Instant Surplus. C series and 717 is pretty much a parallel with the regional market. In my opinion that's how they are preparing.
