IMHO, they throw a lot of this info into fairly quick briefings during the first week of training. It ends up getting dumped by week 2 or 3 after the gen subs exam.

Honestly I'm not sure how you could change it for the better besides the existing mentor program and on the line training. Also, the FOM's seem to be pretty helpful with this stuff as well.

How commutable are the lines on the 900 out of JFK? (Commuting from DCA or CHS) What is the likelyhood of getting 5 day commutable lines worth at least 25 credit/block hours? Is reserve time at JFK about 4 months?

The most junior line holder in JFK for DEC 2015 is an APR2015 hire. 4 trips. 89 hours. 14 days off. Looks like each trip commutable on one side.

In LGA the most junior line holder has a very similar looking month but has been here about a year and has held that junior line in a prior month as well.

I've noticed that some people bid back and forth between LGA and JFK frequently so the reserve time varies and is not necessarily always better in JFK

If you're commuting out of DCA then I would recommend LGA as your base. Only counting delta/delta connection flights there are far more flights into LGA because of the delta shuttle up to 14 a day depending on the day. JFK has about 3-4

5 day trips are mandatory 25 hour minimum trips so you'll never get less than that. The majority of them go to more Sr. FOs but Jr. FOs do get them maybe once a month but there are plenty of 4 day trips that credit 25 hours as well and Jr. FOs might get about 1 of those a month.

Jr. Line holders are always in the credit push so their lines are built to about 90 hours and typically will fly four 4 day trips so that averages to 22.5 hours per trip. Some a little higher. Some a little lower......... In these last 2 paragraphs I'm speaking about what I've seen in LGA only

For December there was around a dozen or so TDY spots open in LGA which is going to make the lines look a little worse since those go pretty senior.

If they don't do TDY assignments in Jan you will see the reserve time in LGA move in a positive direction. There are quite a few new hires in school right now that will also be coming on line in Jan and Feb for LGA.

Thanks Bar Harbor and Papa Mike for the good info. My first post here. I have a CJO for January 900 class. I am from MA, so JFK or LGA sound like my first choices as, despite the typical NYC delays, they would seem to be the most commute-friendly out of BOS. I would be new to the commuting world (and yes, I have a vague idea of what I'm getting myself into) so any advice about whether the NYC thing is a good or bad idea would be appreciated.

My overall experience with Endeavor has been very positive. The whole trip out there for the interview was seamless, from the BOS-MSP flights to the hotel, as well as the interview process. All of the people involved from both the HR and Flight Ops side were very friendly and professional, and there always seemed to be a plan as to what was going on. Good vibes from people all around that they were working at a place that is on an upward trajectory. The other 3 interviewees were great company as well, and all of us got CJOs. We all agreed that it was a positive experience that left us feeling good about the place. Granted, like the Army recruiter in Stripes telling you about all the wonderful, exotic destinations the Army will show you, all the kool-aid is taken with a grain of salt; however, the interview process was well run and organized and I genuinely felt as though I was interacting with people who were happy doing what they were doing.

Not a current Endeavor employee but you may find the BOS-DTW commute also quite palatable. (Telling you this is to my detriment as an offline guy haha). ~8 DAL, ~3 JB Block is generally around 2 hours but there doesn't seem to be a large amount of DAL commuters. YMMV

Congratulations on the CJO! NYC should work for you. 9e usually operates at least two BOS to JFk flights a two and you get jumpseat priority on those. Plus there's the LGA shuttle which runs pretty frequently. Worst case you can take the train or drive but unless there's a major mechanical or weather issue you shouldn't have too much of a problem getting to work. JetBlue is a good backup as well.

Things should hopefully keep improving and if there's any chance they can actual hire the kind of numbers they want then movement should be pretty good next year.

First flight to JFK from BOS is usually in the gate by 650 and he last on leaves JFK at 2250 with a ton in between plus 2 hourly shuttles to LGA. In the 4 years I've done the commute to JFK I've had to spend the night in NY 4 times, and I am not senior.

Commuted to DTW for a couple months. It's not bad, but much more limited. People who complain about the BOS-NYC commute have never had a real commute. This one is simple.
