I've spent 14 months commuting to NY vs at home in Detroit. I've spent barely any of that. No crash pad, I can commute in and out same day except for the rare occasion. I've cabbed twice- $30 total. Never missed a commute, it's been close but the company has gotten me there. Extensions/IROPS don't cost you money, if anything they pay you more. Headaches happen everywhere, they make pills for that. I get that it's not ideal, I'm waiting for the day I can be home based again. The thing is, no one is forcing you to do what you are doing. The bankruptcies were a raw deal. The merger was a raw deal. The current push to the northeast is a raw deal. But life goes on and you've got to make the best of it. Commute to a good line or sit reserve at home, but maybe try seeing the bright side of S$&@. There's options.
This is part of Delta removing 9% of their flying out of MSP... with likely much more to come as the contract with Minnesota from the merger expires. Speculation? Sun Country is hiring.

Minnesota contract
The deadline for the contract to keep jobs in Minnesota from the merger has already passed (a while ago)
A check airman told me that Delta is working on a plan to transfer flying from compass and to shut them down. Insider info on what they did was. They have used delta do DH crew members on several occasions for their American flying, which violated their agreement with delta.
Or if you do catch their eye, they have to do the frown, which means "damn you said hi to me now I have to react in some manner but I'm sure as hell not happy about it".

Cool.. maybe once the deadline passes we will move out of the almighty C Tower and join Eddie B down in Mecca... RG swears it is not going to happen but that is exactly why it will... speaking of RG how long until he leaves 9E to be the Director of Flight Ops for Daddy D... somebody needs to stop the bleeding... $125 million loss from the ATL IROP.. but hey... Ed did say he was sorry.. he tweeted it from the Masters while caddying for Sergio

These fiascos are an accepted part of the Delta model. While their lack of out and back style flying (like NWA used) makes for bigger profits during normal ops, it makes for a nightmare to clean up after an event like this last IROP. You can't simply cancel a bank of flights and pick back up where you left off like basically nothing happened. Everyone, their brother, their cousin, and even late grandma is now out of position and needs to be redirected... not easy to do in half a day.
