Just at the right place at the right time when I signed in this morning. Since it was being discussed here and a number of friends have asked, I got a few questions answered.

For the out of seniority SSP, it will be all in seniority at first but by mid next year they anticipate doing out of seniority SSP.

Oh, and it's "losing."

Look at it this way--would someone want to be one of a few dozen pilots at Delta without a degree?

Want to work at Delta? Get get at least one legitimate degree. Just like everyone else.

Thanks 80. As it should be... Glad to know those who took 4 years of their lives and worked hard to meet a specific Delta requirement will not have done it in vain.

Legend, not that we are losing sleep over it, but personally, I have always wanted to go to Delta, and when I was 15, I researched them and saw Delta required a 4 year degree, so I gave up 4 years of potential seniority at 9E, to fulfill a requirement at Delta. If my life long ambition was to work for a company that didn't require the 4 year degree, then after high school I would have focused more on my flying experience and qualifications for that company, instead of busting my a%$ in calculus, Biology II, and 18th century literature, which was required for my 4 year degree, which is required by Delta.

Y'all are assuming that those without a degree aren't working on it or really close to getting it. I've had those same classes and worked just as hard as anyone, I've just taken a different route than you guys for various reasons. But if I get an interview before I get that magic piece of paper and get hired I won't feel bad for doing it.

An agreement was made by our union and Delta management to allow this. If I don't get hired I will continue as I have and finish it regardless that its a requirement. There are always waivers, exceptions and side agreements that occur and will always happen in our industry. Some get upset because they had to have 2500 TT back in the day to fly a Jet stream and then you could be 21 w/ 289hrs and get the same job. Before the bridges! Daddy's little girl with 1500 hrs TT and a degree gets preferential treatment, when some needed 8000+ to be competitive, military etc. Yes they met the requirement but wasn't competitive which is what normally drives it.
So why is it so difficult to swallow? Because you meet that part of the requirements and someone else gets it without? Or you had to have it when you got hired so there should be no exceptions to this rule? There will always be exceptions!!!!

That's life! If it doesn't work out that's life too!

Delta got rid of all the mangers from NWA that didn't have degrees, even if they were good managers. Furthermore, DAL would likely fire every pilot that didn't have a degree if the pilots suddenly became non-union. The 4 year degree is a cultural thing there, that's why there is such an out-cry over it.

I'm totally fine with a culture that values education.

Even if they allow non-degree pilots to interview, that gives them a perfect reason to reject them and move onto the next guy. Same with certain pilots who have criminal records and multiple training failures.

I have no doubt That Delta will continue to be selective with whom they hire as they should. The SSP has no guarantees, just a one day interview opportunity. Will they hire some with out a degree? Probably, but not many. No one is so nieve not to see that but we would be a fool not to take a chance and try, I know I will. If it doesn't happen that's ok too.

An agreement was made and maybe(most likely) because Delta wanted us to pass the TA so they gave us a carrot. Wouldn't be the first time they did this and not follow through with it. Only time will tell.
