Default New Hire ATL assignment?

I have a August 7, 2017 class date. Is ATL offered to new hires as a first assignment? If not how long would it take to get assigned ATL out of training? I am 38 years old. Appreciate any feedback.

Thanks

It is not being offered to new hires at the moment. Given that we will probably only have 2-3 more vacancy notices this year your odds of being able to bid for it are good. Weather or not you will get it is another story. If the rumor of a 900 base in ATL opening up before Christmas is true than all bets are off.

I'm sorry, new to the airline world...what does this mean? Why "only" 2-3?

Also, how do you think things would go if the 900 rumors are true?

My guess would be very senior for captains, I feel first officer may have a mix of senior and junior guys.

A vacancy is when the company fills pilot positions that have become available. They happen somewhere between every 2-6 months here. Basically in seniority order, everyone gets to pick their most desired position- if that position is Available- they get that position. At the end of that process anything left over is available to people yet to be hired. In the last vacancy, everything was filled with current pilots except NYC FOs.

So all new hires will go to NYC first- and in the next vacancy will be able to bid out to different bases if his/her seniority can hold a different base.

If I were a betting man, I would say -900 in ATL is probable sooner or later.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I assumed this was part of the monthly bidding process. So why is the fact that there will only be 2-3 left this year be advantageous to new hires?

Because you will get NYC regardless. The fact that there may be 2-3 more vacancy notices will allow you an opportunity before year end to bid out of NYC to your desired base as that is not part of the monthly bidding process.

Someone in the other thread said the last class was all NY 900. No ATL new hires at all.
