Far superior to sitting in a crashpad.

I know what you're saying but last time around they were escalating to short call anytime they didnt have a trip. You will still be spending time in a crashpad. We would need a fundamental change in the way crew scheduling operates for it to be of any value. Not saying it can't be done but those of us with previous exposure have valid reasons to be skeptical.

Also commuters, beware the 12hr call out, even an easy/short commute can get dicey and there will probably be a window of time where you have 0 options if they call you right at 12hrs.
Caveat Emptor.

I'll give my view from someone living a commute to reserve at a regional for a bunch of years perspective. Sounds good on paper. Maybe works good if the stars align. Probably a tiny bit better in real life. If you have 5 or 6 SC conversions a month, the benefit to commuters becomes negligible. If you can get it without paying anything for it, sure, why not? When we negotiated it, years ago, we gave them Ready Reserve (8 hrs at airport for Short Call pilots- up to 6 a month) in exchange. Not worth it.

If long call reserve is like long call available- they have to give you somthing by noon of the day prior, first called and no conversion to short call - long call would be fine. But the way our schedulers would use it, it's probably useless.

It can be as short as a week or two... On their end they have to get a certain amount of background checks done.. For me they offered a class starting 12 days later....I deferred so I could give two weeks.

yes long call was worthless the way it was before. They changed you to short call every week.
