A LAS 4 day...
Thinking about taking the wife out to LAS for a few days. Hotel recommendations? Normally, I'd just call the FBO (which is why I put it in this section - because dat's what we do!) but I figured I'd see what y'all recommend...I'm sure some here are "regulars".
Haven't been to LAS in................. a long time and last time I really didn't leave the hotel. This time I'd like to look around for a few days and explore a bit.
Any recommendations at all would be great. Thanks.

PS
Trying not to be "cheap" but also don't want to blow the bank either. Mini's saving up for a bunch of new golf clubs, 'n 'at.

Take the canoe/kayak trip from Hoover Dam downstream. Requires permits because only so many boats allowed per day. Bring lunch and bathing suits so you can sit in the hot springs and eat your lunch. Great trip, plan all day, reasonable price. My favorite thing to do in Vegas. Google Las Vegas canoe trip for outfitters, they can help you get permits.

A year and a half ago my wife and I spent 4 nights at the MGM Grand. Didn't spend very much time in the room as we just went walking the whole strip, exploring all the hotels etc..
We got the bus passes one day and it came in handy, and worth the cost. We went to the old strip and that's neat for one night, and the bus pass was worth it's value just for that.
One day I got a car and we drove to Hoover Dam, definately cool if you like feats of engineering. Since it was winter and the Grand Canyon had some weather issues, we headed back and went to Red Rock Canyon, another neat geographical piece in the area. Couldn't tell you how I got there, I think we took the long way just to do it.
Something to side-cut the Stratosphere, and make it a reasonably cheap experience, is to go up the restaraunt for lunch, just get reservations the night before, and then it's a free ride to the top. Then after dinner you have roof access at no additional charge. The meals aren't the "cheapest," but it all balances out.
Overall we kept it cheap, I think the buffet's are over-rated, because the quality just wasn't there when we visited. Some of the sit-down places I felt were a better value, and you won't come home 10+lbs either.

The Westin Casuarina (sp?) behind the Flamingo Hilton (on Flamingo Road) is very nice, clean, remodeled rooms and walkable to everything. Internet rates are low and crew rates available (but last time internet rate was lower.)

Thanks for the input folks. Except this...
I'd pee myself. I'm afraid of heights. Very much so. That would just be embarrassing.
No, but thanks seriously.

Monte Carlo in pretty decent and has the best deal for the money. New York New York is also good for the cost and a lot of fun, plus it's in a great locale. If you want a little nicer, the Mirage and MGM Grand are next. Planet Hollywood is pretty good. If you want to spend some dough, then Mandalay Bay, Venetian, Wynn, and Belagio are good.
Luxor needs a remodel, Paris is so so, Excalibur sucks, Circus Circus and Stratosphere suck.
If your aren't dead set on being on the strip, the Golden Nugget on Fremont St was nicely remodeled a couple years ago and has a beautiful pool. It's only $35 a night.
Do yourself a favor, rent a car, they're cheap. I don't know why anybody wouldn't rent one in this town. It's probably the most common mistake people make when coming to Vegas. Parking is free everywhere except Fremont St area, but you can get it validated.
Take a trip to the Hoover Dam, Red Rock Canyon, the Valley of Fire, drive up Mt Charleston and have lunch on the deck at the lodge near the top of the road. It's a nice break from the heat but it can get pretty cold up there in winter. Do yourself a favor and spend a day or two off the strip, there is so much more to this city than the dirty old strip. Bring cash everywhere you go.
