Airspace redesigns up there will require an RNAV approach to 13 in the near future. Not even the GPS equipped -90's are approach certified. JFK will have a similar restriction shortly after that. Also, we only have I believe 19 GPS equipped -90's.
This info is directly from one of the technical pilots working with Boeing on the FMS/GPS and .3nm RNP certifications that I recently flew with.
I would expect significant changes to the NY category over the next year or two before the upgrades are complete. Just my thoughts.

Figure out how to get an approach certified for them AND crews trained by March. Projected June 88 block hours down 44%, by next Nov down 77%. Co is planning on no displacements and will be posting Atl vacancies hoping for takers and a lot of rotations beginning & ending with a DH. I'd say if you're below 50%
In either seat get out while the getting is good or you're going to end up on reserve covering a much larger footprint in EWR.

The real "issue" is on the M88A side. How many Capts will attrit to ATL (or MSP?) to balance the category? Or can marketing work enough viable (and profitable) equipment swaps to the other NYC co-terminals to sustain the category until a solution is implemented?
Either that or the NYCM88 category better have the Delta Studio/GoGo Entertainment app downloaded to those wonderful S3s on the next update 'cause they will be needing it for all the DHs in/out of NYC. 😅
