We like counting those positions when other airlines fly them that way... but if we start following suite?

It still amuses me that we count the same airframe differently in the comparisons too.

If it does become a transcon machine that should at least open up more options to build pairings. I'm sure it will still do a fair amount of international as well. That said, aren't they going through a significant cabin refresh? Unless they're going to be multipile and rather significant differences within the fleet config, it seems like it would still be mostly an intl plane...unless they're getting ready to go hard against the brutal undercutting of the transcon market that's going on ATM (and soon TA flying as well).

We either pay a lot to win that battle now or we pay far more later.
The transcon market now demands full amenity interiors. It is also one of our highest yielding domestic markets.

HARRUMPH! Honestly though, If I lived in base, I wouldn't mind the non-commutable 2-day LAX trips so much. It's the total lack of commutability that is the primary source of b*******g. Marketing can have their premium transcon bonanza, AND we can get a much more decent bid packet. Win-win, Oh wait, we can't have that!

Commuting to NYC is a choice. Move to your base and that will solve your problem. Time or money via seniority, your choice.

Rigs! (or hourly pay for TAFB) If I'm required to be somewhere and they have me captive with control over my life via reroutes, then I should get paid. My time is the commodity they are purchasing. They can make the schedules as pilot friendly or marketing friendly as they like, it will change.

Just hope you don't see this in your kids you tube history... #1life2live

You are absolutely right, commuting is a choice, and I no longer commute. But by your logic, not one pilot should ever do anything but take whatever the company wants to do to us with a smile. I mean, why even have a PWA?

OR, maybe, just maybe, there are things that we can collectively take a position on certain things...

You try to help someone with a partial answer to a question, and to understand the underlying factual reasons so as to make an informed choice on whether to bid for that commute, and it invariably devolves to knives and cynicism...

Most kids now days dont see their Dads because of work demands. They dont see them because their Dad simply isnt in the home.

its much more a problem of individual commitment than work schedule.

The kid in the video may one day appreciate having a Dad that stuck around and met his responsibilities much more than the hurt feelings over lost Dad time. As one of ten kids..with a Dad that worked two jobs....i know i did.

As put upon as we may feel at times in this job....it comes with rewards and options most working people simply do not have.

Its always good to work for a better pwa....in the meantime we each make an individual calculation to best fit our circumstances.

Except this discussion isn't about making a better PWA and didn't seem to be about changing work rules for everyone. It's about widebody pilots whining about flying domestically and not liking those trips.

I'm curious how you'd make it a commutable trip with those flight times short of moving positions from NYC to the west coast and shrinking the category in NYC.
