Wrong again. Golly folks, why is this so hard to get straight! I'll see if I can try...
Interview: Delta pays for airfare to/from ATL; interviewee pays for lodging (2 nights if you are successful).
Indoc: Delta pays for airfare to/from ATL AND lodging through indoc, roughly two weeks or so (used to be the Staybridge Suites on VA Ave. Fyi, hotel provides free breakfast, dinner and beer/wine most days of the week). They will also positive space you to/from ATL for the weekend that falls in the middle of indoc.
New Hire Dinner: Delta pays for your spouse's airfare to/from ATL. Dinner is typically during the second week of indoc so Delta is still paying for your hotel.
Post-indoc/initial aircraft training: NOW is when you're on your own. I *believe* the contract says you get PS company business travel (that you are responsible for booking yourself) to/from ATL for any break in training greater than 2 days.

20 years ago you got PS to/from the interview and to/from breaks in training (indoc and subsequent qual) and that was it. I do not believe we even got 1 night in a hotel courtesy of Delta back then and there was no Delta-sponsored dinner, just a luncheon with your spouse/s.o./parents or whoever attended the day-long dog and pony show. Crash pad, extended stay hotel, room with buddies, whatever you chose...was all on your own dime. Things are trending in the right direction but could always be better for the new hires.

Ummmm....I think MD88 was pointing out the use of the term "ever has had" which you completely missed - perhaps decaf will mitigate the "Ready, FIRE, Aim" replies? 😁 Your post only addresses how current things work as of the recent past while the all-encompassing "ever has had" goes beyond your recent experience.

I do agree 100% on the use of absolutes. Caution is definitely warranted, especially around this crowd!

While the recent past is neat and I love hearing stories from the generations that went before me, my goal was to set the record straight on how the process works currently for those that will be going through it. This is a thread geared towards informing applicants/new hires, right?

Fly safely....and fly the contract.

Actually I do watch the NFL because you know what your getting. Professional sports teams. What I don’t watch is college football because it’s a utter and complete joke. The concept of the student athlete is dead and buried. Change the rules where schools can only recruit athletes with a reasonable chance of academic success and then require actual real progress toward a degree. Award future scholarships based on graduation rate and I might come back. The highest paid person at a college should be the president of the school not the football coach.

Significant others used to be invited?! How did Delta verify the purity of your relationship? How could they verify you weren't having premarital sex? Thank goodness we don't still permit such madness. Letting a new hire determine who he or she wants present at this momentous occasion would be a recipe for disaster.

Meh. Let's all just admit to ourselves that the NCAA is a minor league development program for the NFL. Pay the players. Some schools will have enough money to be dominant. Other schools will stay noncompetitive. Not much will change, but at least it will be honest, and the kids can make money for putting their body on the line.
