DAL Class drops

It isn't that bad. As a commuter you probably prefer to fly versus sitting in a hotel or crashpad, and on the 88 you'll almost always find a trip especially if you use yellow slips. You will almost always be able to commute same day on both ends of your trips, depending on where you live of course. For days when you don't get flying, you'll get up to 7 short calls a month and there are some cheap hotel options, I prefer the Country Inn South which has a discount code for airline people that brings it down to $60/nt. You can book online and cancel up to 6pm same day no penalty. Quality Inn is cheaper. Most new hires are sitting rsv for about 3 months on the 88 in ATL right now, this could be changing going forward but it is all going to depend on how the next big ae shakes out against the pace of fleet retirements.

Easy to commute from HPN/LGA/JFK?

It definitely seems that way. There hasn't been a single DTW 320 dropped in the last year and only a handful of 73s. It has even been a while since the last 717 opening there for new hires. I guess the newly-delivered aircraft are being used elsewhere.
