Make sure you call in sick when you are sick, don't fly and get others sick, we want you to stay at home when you are sick, don't abuse sick calls, but still we want you to call in sick when needed, did I say not to abuse sick calls, just so you know we have you back when you call in sick, you may need to provide documentation when calling in sick, but don't think I am discouraging you from calling in sick, just make sure you don't call in sick when you aren't.

Do we work for the same company? This is my third airline, and the only one where newhires were treated with respect and dignity from day one. The previous two? You were "lucky to be here" and "don't know squat" the moment you walked through the door. Training was brutal, every checkride was a gamble. A lot of the line captains treated you like you like you were an apprentice.
I can count on half a hand the number of captains I've had problems with at Delta after 9 years.
-- just some humble perspective.

I flew 88 FO in NYC. DC9 FO in ATL and ER FO in ATL. I rarely ran across a Captain I didn't like.
I got displaced to the 88 in ATL (for about 9 months) and I flew with a lot of great Captains, but there were a few that gave the rest a bad name. From my experience it is the catogory that draws the guys who are trying to get on the no fly list.

I think we have some dingleberries on the 717 from a few reports. I witnessed one when I was jumpseating... reminded me to stay out of his way so he could make his in front of the cabin PA while looking over my ID and such. Then, he proceeded to give OE to his poor FO. Not a bad thing if he was a LCA, but he was not. A lot of what he was telling the FO about... everything... was wrong!
I couldn't help but ask him eventually if he was an LCA and is this OE? The FO was new and obviously just putting up with the guy...

I'm a 717 guy. I've had nothing but a positive experience in my first 6 months and I'm Atlanta based. Not sure who you've been flying with. I also don't mind being mentored as long as it's done with respect and professionalism. And so far, that's what I've experienced. We all can learn something everyday so don't be afraid to listen and maybe, once in awhile share.

Aside from 1 captain that was just strange, I've had nothing but great captains (73N). They've all treated me like a big boy and have gone out of their way to teach me things if asked. I don't mind some acting as a mentor, I may just learn something. If I don't agree, I filter it out, otherwise I'm thankful for them sharing their lessons learned. Then again I don't take, a captain sharing lessons learned/mentoring, as an attack on my skills as a pilot.
My decision to come to DAL would not have been changed if I had heard these posts. I'm not going to base a career change on what a few people say about how they're treated for two weeks of indoc. Heck, I'd go through SERE again to not have to commute. I wish your buddy easy commutes...commuting makes this a whole different job.
