Make sure you call in sick when you are sick, don't fly and get others sick, we want you to stay at home when you are sick, don't abuse sick calls, but still we want you to call in sick when needed, did I say not to abuse sick calls, just so you know we have you back when you call in sick, you may need to provide documentation when calling in sick, but don't think I am discouraging you from calling in sick, just make sure you don't call in sick when you aren't.

Heard that a few times in class.

I can count on half a hand the number of captains I've had problems with at Delta after 9 years.

Your humility is exceptional.

Were you ever a Maddog FO in ATL?
I flew 88 FO in NYC. DC9 FO in ATL and ER FO in ATL. I rarely ran across a Captain I didn't like.

I got displaced to the 88 in ATL (for about 9 months) and I flew with a lot of great Captains, but there were a few that gave the rest a bad name. From my experience it is the catogory that draws the guys who are trying to get on the no fly list.

I think we have some dingleberries on the 717 from a few reports. I witnessed one when I was jumpseating... reminded me to stay out of his way so he could make his in front of the cabin PA while looking over my ID and such. Then, he proceeded to give OE to his poor FO. Not a bad thing if he was a LCA, but he was not. A lot of what he was telling the FO about... everything... was wrong!

I couldn't help but ask him eventually if he was an LCA and is this OE? The FO was new and obviously just putting up with the guy...

Bah, that's nothing! Back in the day, we had Captains who were mean to other Captains! Mean to themselves! Bid lousy trips on purpose! Bounced landings just to teach the airport a lesson!

I'm a 717 guy. I've had nothing but a positive experience in my first 6 months and I'm Atlanta based. Not sure who you've been flying with. I also don't mind being mentored as long as it's done with respect and professionalism. And so far, that's what I've experienced. We all can learn something everyday so don't be afraid to listen and maybe, once in awhile share.

Hmm, I've been through indoc/training/flown for two legacies and I was treated slightly better at indoc and quite a bit better during training here at Delta. Sure B.B. has his pet peeves, but to be honest I'm quite surprised that he didn't lecture us about courtesy . My class was filled with dudes that loved to have side conversations while guests were speaking. I found it quite rude and was surprised people acted this way. We also had dudes consistently late to get into their seats. I thought we were given tons of latitude.

Aside from 1 captain that was just strange, I've had nothing but great captains (73N). They've all treated me like a big boy and have gone out of their way to teach me things if asked. I don't mind some acting as a mentor, I may just learn something. If I don't agree, I filter it out, otherwise I'm thankful for them sharing their lessons learned. Then again I don't take, a captain sharing lessons learned/mentoring, as an attack on my skills as a pilot.

Did he base this on his vast experience actually flying at Delta or just word of mouth (WOM)? If I had listened to all the WOMs, I would have never went to AAL. Then again, I often find they are rarely ever true and grossly exaggerated.

My decision to come to DAL would not have been changed if I had heard these posts. I'm not going to base a career change on what a few people say about how they're treated for two weeks of indoc. Heck, I'd go through SERE again to not have to commute. I wish your buddy easy commutes...commuting makes this a whole different job.
