That’s what I meant. 7.5 people below me. I should have said “in a perfect math world I would have been 7.5 from the bottom.” Instead I was 11 from the bottom. See kids the real lesson here is that even you can be a Delta pilot. Thank you cardinals fan

True, but since the hiring is done at random the SSN spread would be random too. But it seems there is no equating relative position of last 4 SSN #s to relative position out of 30 or 40 in a class.

I'm guessing the sample size isn't enough to be statistically significant. I can't remember much from stats class, but 30 out of a possible 10,000 combinations (0001 - 9999) is only 0.3%. And technically, two or more pilots could have the same last 4, so there's even more combinations than that.

Some interesting statistic-skewing trivia about SS#s:
From 1936-1972, the first 3 digits were the 'region' where the number was assigned, the next 2 digits were the 'group number' assigned in a specific sequence mixing up odd and even numbers, and the 'last four' were called the 'serial number' and were assigned 0001-9999.
In 1972, issuing SSNs was centralized to the Baltimore SSA office and used a similar system until 2011.
In 2011, the SSA instituted a new process of issuing SSNs called 'Randomization.' This removed the regional significance of the first 3 and completely mixed up the rest.
All this info is intended to show that the last 4 are moving toward the statistical condition that if you have 9XXX as your last 4, you should be in the top 10% of your class, and similarly a SSN of 0XXX puts you in the botom 10th. However, if you were assigned a SSN before 2011, the odds are not as easy to calculate. Since each year, each SSN region started out with the last 4 of 0001 and went up from there, the number of low SSNs in any given class should be higher than the number of high SSNs.
I'm just having fun with numbers.

I was a low 4 and I was about 50% in my class. There's no formula to help you. If you're a 9, you'll have your pick of plane and/or base. If you're a 1 or 0, enjoy the MD

Not always ... I was a 1 and there was still a 73 not in NYC waiting for me. I’m a statistical outlier, but ... I’m saying there is a chance!

For what it's worth, I think the 88 is only going to get more junior and less desirable. Trip mix on that beast in ATL is awful and my hunch is that people are getting fed up.
