Lanyard Policy

That AP took a while to get the hang of...The knob was this weird two axis thing that controlled the bank and the pitch directly. You had to engage the altitude hold independently, and the heading mode only worked from the CA's bug.
The DC-9's AP was quite the step up in comparison.
Later model 727s had a better AP with things like speed hold and altitude capture.

A LCA told me a few weeks ago that the company has had 6 probies not make it through OE in the past two years company wide. He only knew the specifics of 3. A dude on IOE showed up late for pickup 3 mornings in a row. Another showed up late one day...the next day he showed up on time but unshaven and smelling of beer. Another had a bad attitude the LCA's didn't think they could ever fix...he had been repeatedly counseled in sim training for the 'tude. He also mentioned that training failures are rare, but do happen. At least 2 haven't made it through sims in this hiring wave.

As a probie who has already been accosted by a random captain in a jetbridge for not wearing a lanyard I'll chime in. I'm not wearing the lanyard because I don't have a spotless record so far and I have zero interest in taking even a 0.1% chance of giving the wrong person in the wrong mood even more ammunition against me. I don't think I need to spell out the career earnings I'd sacrifice if I became "#7 to be fired in the last couple of years". Right now the party that said not to wear orange lanyards in an official company memo is the party that can take my entire career and wad it up leaving me flying CRJs at GoJet if I'm lucky. No thanks. I'll join you chest-thumpers when I'm out of the oven, till then give us a break.

Phuz that pilot probably didnt know you were on probation. Thats all you have to say. He or she should have approached you without being so presumptuous in the first place. Dont sweat it, you're doing the right thing right now. We'll see you on team orange once youre off probation.
There would never be any question on who is buying the beers!

Not FTB....probably in a slow descent, and the FO is getting ready to engage the altitude hold.
