Aiming high for sure.
I'm against the DB though. As a young guy, I just want a larger % in my DC. Pensions are going the way of the dodo. Additionally, DC plans are paid to date. I can leave tomorrow and take what I've earned. Personally, not interested in going back to a promise from the company I have to work a career for.

That was the old guys fault, we gave the Co. the private pension money to finance the 72's and the N/E merger. Lesson learned: Do not loan money to the 4th floor. The question is, would DAL still be around if we hadn't....

Perhaps you are right. The revision in payout was not approved until 1992, before that time it was straight A and B monthly checks.

I know now I am not in the minority, in that I expect my union to FIGHT for us and what we deserve. Do I think we have any chance at reforming the ages old and seemingly out of date Railway labor act? No, I don't. But no one has any idea if it is possible because, to the best of my knowledge, no one has tried...yet.
I'm sure there isn't a politician willing to rewrite the RLA in a way that benefits labor in any way. I'm sure we aren't going to increase our pay in any really meaningful way until the majors run out of pilots to hire. At some point, in five years or so, the Majors are going to be struggling just to replace retiring Pilots. Some here don't realize that we have the upper hand.
As witnessed by everyone reading these threads, pay rates are the first item looked at by most. Luckily some read a little deeper but if you were a company wanting to continue to attract the best applicants while still remaining competitive, in terms of employee costs, you would offer top pay rates and try to have the most productive (for the company) work rules. That is what we were being sold by Management and DALPA. I don't resent management, they were just doing their job, and they are very good at their jobs. What is unacceptable to me, is that the union that takes 2% of my pay, just for the privilege of being a member, tried telling me this is the best we can do and that if I vote this down, somehow, the next step is a presidential emergency board. AYFKM? Thanks for trying, but we will see if we can find some guys willing to try a little harder.
Playing nice with management worked for a while but it isn't working any more. Delta is flush with profits, and there is no reason we should be taking any concessions. Most of us know this which is a great place to start. Now we need a union willing to take the fight to them.
To all of the guys that have been coming on here putting 65% of your co-workers down and criticizing us, get this through your head!!!! It isn't about the pay!!!!! There is no reason to give any concessions!! I know of over 6 Billion dollars, probably closer to 10 Billion reasons not to give concessions. The concessions were an attempt to solve a staffing problem, and increase profits. Those profits will remain ours and the staffing problems aren't going to get better, what will they want next time if we give in now?
Sorry, I will get off my soap box now. I just felt like venting a little bit.
I hope everyone has a great weekend. I am so proud to be your co-worker, brothers and sisters!

I agree that reforming the RLA as a negotiating committee member is not in the realm of possibility, but this is the kind of action and effort our union should be attempting and fighting for. Not attending birthday parties thrown for the CFO of the company.

Great rant!
Our most recent look behind the curtain of DALPA sausage making has revealed unimagined ineffectiveness. Who could've thought the DALPA agenda was really truly to take management's opener and spin it as a win to the pilots. I can be cynical but, wouldn't have truly imagined that it was close to as bad as it really was.
Atlanta reps must go for the restoration to continue to have a chance. Those reps may be marginalized already but, they need to go away. Far away from union work.
It is high time to put labor risk solidly on the table. The pilot shortage is soon to roost at mainline. Keep our scope solid and intact and we will have leverage in spades going forward. What does restoration mean to me? FedEx plus one in every section. Even 1 penny or 1 second.
I am absolutely willing to enter the cage for this. Enough is enough.
