Default Canaries in the Coal Mine

How many "canaries" do you know? How many pilots have you spoken with who are voting No for the very first time?

I'll start - I know two. Both military buds. Both over 25 years here. Both strong No.

I'm seeing quite a few in this demographic posting on Facebook as well. I suspect they may be the margin on this vote.

Canaries anyone?

+1 Cannot willing go along with the new sick policy.

After I voted I went into my bedroom and tore off the mattress tag (under penalty of law).

I am a bad boy.

Twelve years of Catholic school, four years of military school, seven years active duty... I've been wearing uniforms since I was six years old. Jeeze, I waited til my mom died before I got a tattoo. (didn't want to **** her off). But, for the first time, I voted counter to my union's recommendation and selected NO, NO, NO!

My first no after 27 years. I don't like how ALPA put this to us as an early vote when the MEC vote was 11-8. The pay increases are marginal (given the PS reduction) and the other contract changes are concessionary. If unity is our only strength the MEC should have turned this back and fought for a better outcome. Time is on our side and the company is playing us with this pre-emptive strike.

I know three:

85 hire, first no, had a sick leave event and didn't care for the hassle so far. "can't imagine what it will be like…."

95 hire, first no…. "paying for my own raise again…."

97 hire, first no, senior FO……"whole things is typical….."

we will see...

27 years, first no. Agonized on the fence in 2012. This choice was easy, mainly for sick leave degradation
