Great to hear from one of the original alpa-holics on this because it highlights what happens in gutter politics. This is straight from the Saul Alinsky book. You never debate the merit of the opposing party, you only personalize that party and vilify it. We saw democrats hang GW Bush around every republican because they were republicans. And it worked to elect Obama. We saw republicans hang Obama, Reid and Pelosi around every democrat because they were democrats. And it worked to wipe out democrats in the Congress.

Forget about the fact that the democrat party is so much more than Obama, Reid and Pelosi. Forget about the fact that the Republican Party is so much more than GW Bush. Personalize the entire organization as one person, and it'll likely work. That's why DALPA's Special Committee went with the tried and true method of identifying DPA as Caplinger. It's nothing personal, just gutter politics from a bankrupt ideology.

There might be a way to get a 19-0 vote.

ALPA is always accused of mounting a "sales job".
Whether you agree or not, a lot of pilots perceive that as somehow unfair.
That sales ritual is the source of nearly all the acrimony and divisiveness.

One option would be to simply empower the rank and file:

Send it out without the MEC formally recommending a yes or no vote.
Let the line pilots read it and decide for themselves.

Individual ALPA officials can opine to their hearts content.
Just refrain from activating the "machine" this time.

Small "d" democracy. Writ large.
This is a historic opportunity in so many ways.

Management needs 19-0 because the challenges that come with adding 2 or 3 more fleets while retiring hundreds of captains each year for the next decade are unparalleled.

The Delta pilots deserve the promised historic PWA after our billions in concessions.

ALPA needs 19-0 because our pilots are detached and see ALPA as a failure.

For me 19-0 is an automatic yes vote. I wear my ALPA pin and contribute to the PAC.

Another mins run C2012 is a game changing mistake.

Now is not the time to be cheap. I have no doubt the machine can push this through.

If they do, the will win the battle and lose the war.

The ramifications will be severe.

Have you ever communicated with TC? I doubt it.

Maybe you just heard wrong. I'd be okay with that, corrected to 17/13/3/3.

No OE bumps seems like quite an abrogation of seniority... I hope that one isn't true. We'll find out next week!

I'd rather be on the right side of history than the winning or losing side any day.
