I'd look for postings in the training center; lots of times there are crash pads advertised on bulletin boards. Some might have the need for a car, which is a benefit in Atlanta. Also touch base with friends who've gone through recently as they usually are up to speed on the latest places. Not sure about extended stays; make some inquiries and let 'em know you work for Delta and maybe you can get a price break. Good luck!

Does anyone know when one would expect to get a sim schedule? Within the first week?

I did the HH points route. Had a car and stayed ~10 nm South in a Hampton Inn for 10-15k points per night. Worked out great.

For Marriott members...the Courtyard past the Credit Union goes for 10,000 points/night.
The Fairfield a hundred yards west of the Staybridge was good for 10,000 points/night a couple years ago, but it looks like that has changed.
