Totally get that all positions go to the rest of the crew force in seniority order and the left overs are for the new hires. Which is why the new hires end up with the 88, 717 and the 320. Mostly to NYC. So...where are all the 88's, 717's and 320's new hires to NYC that will be there for summer flying? They are in the AE's but I don't see them going into the drops in time for them to actually fly during the summer.

Somewhere between months or years depending on your credentials. The average person hired right now has either thousands of hours of CIV Turbine PIC or the better part of a decade of mil experience.

They were in the Dec, Jan and Feb drops. It's 3 to 4 months from drop to the pilot actually available to fly the line.

Probably not. Openings are being filled by guys coming off their one year freeze

The latest AE shows 40 A320's to NYC, 40 NYC 717's, and 80 88's to NYC....and not a single 737 to DTW.

The said this AE is for Summer hiring. Summer is here in less than a month. Based on the churn I see in some of the schedules...it's already here. So if they are going to fill the 110 320's, the 110 88's and the 110 717's for summer...when will these people start and finish indoc, as well as the 6 weeks of training depending on sim availability, plus AE? Are they expecting most of the 320's and 737's to be from guys bidding off the 88 and 717 after a year? It just seems there should be more 320's in the mix, as well as 88's and 717's to NYC. Especially considering NYC didn't have a single day of reserve availability for the entire month of May in the 320, and that doesn't even compete with what's going on with the 717 schedule right now...

They keep saying we need to hire for the summer push. Ok, starting in May may be a little late to the party. Somebody on a drop today may not start sims for another month, then another month plus there, plus waiting for AE. So they start flying at some point in July?

Are the network/schedulers/hiring people/etc..etc.. that out of touch with what's going on schedule-wise, or is this all part of some sort of bean counting exercise where it's worth it not to hire people? Or am I totally missing something?
Also remember that whats advertised on an AE is only what is guaranteed to be filled. There will be many "backfills" from many a category as the positions shift on down the seniority list. Many categories not even mentioned will get new pilots from any AE.
Bid what you want!

...and many of the folks that are now coming of the 1-year, new hire seat freeze are already on the 7ER because of the big push on that fleet last spring.

Or more senior than that relative seniority seems to be falling.

^^^^ That. The March AE had a lot of 7ER openings which resulted in many senior guys moving from their seat locks on other equipment onto the 7ER.
