Back when class seniority was assigned by DOB, there used to be a tradition where the oldest guy got issued a walker, and the youngest guy got issued a beanie with a propeller on top. They each had to add "something" to the items. Surprisingly, the Viagra that was added to the walker lasted a long time before disappearing. The whole class also threw a party for the incoming class and had a handing over ceremony.

After the BK and the change to how seniority was assigned, these items disappeared. Probably in someone's basement or a supply closet in the Training Center. As for starting up some type of new tradition, I would think it would be up to some class to start something and make sure it gets passed on. You guys are smart and creative. Surprise us!

For reference, here's how it played out:
The bottom person for each category, out of 24:
73N-5
320-15
17-20
88-24 (last 4 spots)

For the Apr 4 class I have 7 PM's with last 4. If you want to know where you fall in seniority let me know. Cheers!

Once I get to ATL, I will be looking to bid reserve and get called as seldom as possible to maximize time at home. If that is my agenda, which of these jets will be most suitable to accomplish my objective? I am trying to rack my choices (if I get a choice!!) for the 4Apr class.

Everything changes, but I have been on the 73N ATL since being a June 15 new hire. I commute and never get to sit at home long call to start. Always either assigned short call or a trip on day 1 of a reserve block. I sat in a Crashpad this week for two days of short call and didn't get assigned. First time that happened in 6 months! I always get called to fly, though I often yellow slip a request to fly. I hear similar stories from my Indoc class. I still love it!

I have 2 Crashpad mates on the bottom of the ATL320 list who couldn't beg for flights. Just sat a lot, though that has changed a little the last month or so.

Just remember, if you get 737 or 320 out of Indoc, you will have senior guys coming off the 88 and 717 over to your category when their 1 year freeze is up. This can hold you in place for awhile if they stop awarding the category at Indoc behind you. Timing is everything. We had 26 73N drops in my class including 16 in ATL. The senior guys in my class have held a line from day 1. Instant seniority. Relatively speaking.

Just food for thought..

Since this was the drop.....

12 717 ATL
4 73N ATL
4 A320 NYC
4 MD88 ATL

it is interesting that the last A320 lasted until #15 chose. Some were definitely choosing airframe and/or location for a quick rise in seniority over simply jumping at the highest paying airframe.

I like it! If you're a 4 Apr guy or earlier, I nominate you to plan it. Anyone second the motion? Say aye!

...
Since all airframes pay the same first year, that factor may not play into their decision making until their 12-month seat lock is up.

I thought there was no seat lock on airframe coming right out of indoc. No?

1 year as a newbie; 2 years for all others.

The exception to both is if you bid to a new category. In that case, the seat lock does not apply.
