So what are we talking about, like 20 bucks per employee? They also save money by having the ability to hold back in the first place. Carrying a surplus of that size is very cheap operational insurance and buys time making sure you got it right instead of blowing the dam and then realizing you should have waited longer.

They might sit around all night worrying about how to save 2 cents in per diem off a 5 day, but they know if they get burned from something as basic as this they will get punished hard. There is a cost to hold back but it is very minimal, they carried it last time and they are carring it now at least to some degree.

You know, that ain't half bad when you consider how much they need to spread the love around in the training department. At least it ain't 85 NYCM88B that need to be filled.

Do these unfilled positions account for folks that are in the new hire classes that have been awarded positions?

Anyone know what the average ages are of the two(?) new hire classes so far?
Not the furlough bypass guys, but the true 'new hires' ie. off the street and/or flows? And what's the percentage of Civ. only vs. Mil?
I'm sure it's going to change over time as they get the training dept. spooled up, both the age and the C/M%, I'm just trying to compare today's hiring with that of years gone by.
