Boeing builds airplanes, McDonnell Douglas builds character. 717 is much more automated and will be around longer. Either way with the retirements and movement you won't be on either long, unless you want to.

There are -88 layovers in DEN, but the trips change too much to depend on anything staying the same. As an example, EWR pairings are minimal in March on the -88 and will probably be gone by May if not April. They'll come back around September (probably).
The "717" is just an MD-95. There's nothing Boeing about it. The cockpit is the ACF from the MD-11. If you pick it over the -88, you'll have better ergonomics, better packs and worse trips.

Md-88's/90's are glass cockpits, just very old design. Displays are small and not very user friendly. Upgrade plan was scrapped due to inability of contractor to fulfill his obligations. 717 cockpit basically an MD-11 setup. Big screens and excellent information presentation.
Both airplanes have DEN layovers. Probably the biggest consideration is if you want to be based on the west coast-717 category in LAX is the only option.

You say painful which I would agree and is the reason I don't fly redeyes but wouldn't DEN-ATL at least be a lot easier than, say, SEA/PDX/SFO/LAX to ATL?

Do they ask for retirement orders if they already have a copy of your DD Form 214 from the interview docs you give them? (the 214 is the official form that says "this guy served in the military")

I didn't have the DD-214 at the interview. So I don't know how it compares with orders or no orders. They asked for my retirement orders when I accepted 14 March training with the deferment to the 4 April class. My terminal leave wouldn't work for 14 March.

I have gotten several DEN layovers on the 88. It was nice but I always got 0600ish departures, which made seeing fam in COS somewhat impractical.
You live in COS? Shoot me a PM
