Questions for the crowd as I get ready to make my "pick" with a "0XXX" last four next month:
1) If my preferred base is DTW and the class drop ends up being all ATL & NYC, what would be the best combo to pick in order to switch to DTW, assuming the eqpt that I'm left with is based there?
2) If I end up with something such as ATL 88/90 but actually prefer NYC, how fast might I be able to switch from ATL to NYC?
3) What have the typical last picks/"leftovers" in the past few class drops actually been?
(And yes, I know just about everyone will think I'm crazy for preferring DTW/NYC over ATL...)

You've hit the seniority lottery living near NYC. You'll progress very fast to a line and even upgrade if you want the Maddog.

Very helpful, and the order was kind of what I suspected (and I did realize that M88 isn't based in DTW). Many thanks

the md88 sounds like it could be a good deal for progression. but you have to start the engines with both hands?! haha jk, seems like it would be fun to put another dinosaur in my logbook if I cant get the airbus.

To be fair, some of it's the Maddog, some of it's the trips, but a lot of it is just the Maddog.

LOL. I flew the Maddog for my first three years here. I kind enjoyed it at the time and didn't understand why people did everything in their power not to fly it... - because I didn't know any better! After flying the 737, 757, and 767 I've seen the light.

It seems like its got quite a few quirks to get used to. Finally, for me I've gotten used to one leg a day and 4-5 legs a day seems like practice bleeding for me. There are some guys that love to "stay busy" at work so love the extra preflights, climbs, descents and approaches. Not for me so I will wait until I can move up on 73n or 320 before I consider a CA upgrade (which will probably never happen so I will be a 23 year FO before I retire - only 8 years left and I'm still a 1000 numbers from the most junior CA slot).

Also had to fit in one last down range run to the sand box. 40 hours in 3.5 days with 2 crew rests. Love the mission but won't miss the long 23 hour days...but got to enjoy some German schnitzel and spend my per diem on Turkish rugs and one final tava and cheesy bread.
Anyone commute out of SLC recently--need advice on ATL vs NYC. Welcome any info/PMs. If all the 737s/320s are gone then will have to decide on 88 vs 717. I'll pick in the bottom half of my class.
