Kid headed off to college puts us in the market for a new laptop this summer. We normally use MacBooks. Does all the software for training, bidding, etc - whatever folks may use for the job - run fine on the Apple OS? Any issues?

OK, since the subject has come up ...

Just got my letter for Indoc. They recommend we bring a tablet or laptop for "personal" use. Do we really need one for indoc and or aircraft training. I use my phone heavily and understand we will eventually be trained on the companies MS Surface 2s. I'd hate to go buy another device just for indoc. But if needed I will.
Hotel and Training Center have computers to use.
However, in indoc, you will get a USB for training. This will need to be completed by the second Monday. Takes a few hours. If I remember, the average is 5hrs.
All systems training is done via a USB, and CD's. Of course there are all the company manuals as well. Including the coveted LOD.
Most people have 10+ days off from indoc to Systems. So you could just use a home computer for systems, and the hotel/TC for the indoc USB.
ALL USB's MUST RUN ON WINDOWS!!! <---- read that again.
I would say you don't NEED a computer, but it is a great tool. I suggest it.
Still no company issued tablets, yet.
Start looking for a crashpad.... They are pretty full now. Hotels for systems/sim run about $1600 for the month. Two of us got a great house for $700 for the month.... 350 each. .75mi from TC. Walkable or drive.
PS: I know some people were saying 7-8+ months from CJO to class date. Our class was mostly 3-4 months. My guess is CJO to class date will go back down to 2-3 months (hopefully).

I have a mac. I love it. Windows killed my mac. (slow as crap and battery life stinks running windows)
I would buy a $250 laptop if I were to do it again. At least until the tablets are issued.

I have family I can stay with in Atlanta area but 30-40 minute commute. I assume people live and train in Atlanta all the time, but am wondering if there are any "gotchas" with this plan for sim training. Thoughts?

Traffic would be a pretty big gotcha. Depending on your sim times, you could be spending a lot of time in the car. Guy in my class was staying with family 45-1hr (no traffic) from the airport. Finally gave up and just got a hotel. I LIVE an hour north and ended up getting a hotel for most days.
