DAL Poolie Info

There have been several people saying there is an Apr 28 class, but no one knows of anyone actually being invited to training. And this is the first I've heard of 3 classes in May. I know we would all like some confirmation on that too. Thanks to everyone with a little inside information helping out all of us in the dark.
Welcome aboard, hope ya get a class date soon!

Thanks Ferd. I couldn't agree more. I was a Tweet FAIP back when they were testing the replacements. My vote was for a jet, but mother AF decided to go for the cheap choice. It turns out it was probably a wise choice since the price of fuel went through the roof. I do miss the side by side seating though. It seems we were flying tweets about the same time. Check PM.

All that the company has put out is 50 a month for the next 12 months. Apr 28th is at the very end of the window to have someone useful for summer flying. If it's going to happen notices have to be sent soon.

Updated Spreadsheet
New class starts today. Hopefully someone will post the real drop (not a late April fools joke, which I found very funny, if not slightly cruel, ).
Anyway the highlights:
Took out the 28 Apr class but added a 17 May class for a net change of precisely 0.
Plused up the Apr classes to get them to 24. Anyone with info, please PM me. Cheers,

An idea to help you decide what airplane to bid when it comes time. In the bid pack each month is a chart that shows for each airplane and base the number and percentage of 1-day, 2-day, 3-day, etc trips for each. You can compare what each category is doing that month and can help you decide what would work best for you.
For example I'm on the 73 in NYC and for May, 33% of our trips are 1-day out and backs. It works well for me because I drive to work. Not so good for commuters though. The 320 in MSP is 55% 4-day trips.

Generally, DTW is blessed with a good operation that isn't delay prone, it has inexpensive hotels w/ transportation, so lodging costs are very reasonable, and it has enough flights per day to have a decent enough selection to provide backups.
Both ATL and NYC probably have more options from the SE/East coast, but both have higher lodging costs, and NYC is, well, NYC. Get stuck there in a hotel, and you're probably looking a two c-bills easy. The Baymont in DTW always has rooms, and is $43 out the door.

B) That brings up a question, do new hires get a chance to get on deltanet before class starts? Because at least in our bid was on day 1 right after they took the class picture.

Also, what in your opinion are the best places within driving distance to settle down for a NYC-based pilot? I'm expecting to get NYC (since my last-4 starts with a "0" and I will probably be one of the last in my class to pick) and don't want to commute, so we're anticipating a move to the greater NYC area. Eastern PA is probably not workable for LGA or JFK, so I'm thinking maybe north along the Hudson (~Poughkeepsie) or possibly CT. Thanks

What's the percentage airport for the 73 in NYC, especially the 1-day trips?

Have any of the middle Feb CJOs gotten cleared to train lately? Last I saw, the 4 Feb folks were last cleared but about 2 weeks ago. I'm approaching 7 weeks post interview without a peep. AK did say though that no news is good news in these matters. Not expecting training until late October at best anyways, just trying to get a warm fuzzy.

I don't have a breakout by airport but in NY almost all of the 73 trips are from JFK. There are a few from LGA and every now and then a EWR trip. There are enough guys that live in PA that EWR trips go kind of senior because it's closer and you don't have to pay the bridge tolls. I had my first EWR trip in over a year the other day and I can't tell you the last time I was at LGA.
The 1-day trips are mostly Caribbean turns from JFK that sign in around 8:00am and get back about 6:00pm. Makes for a long day when driving from PA but I do it.
There are plenty of guys that live in PA and CT, some in NJ and NY. PA has the lowest cost of living and is close enough to sit short call from home. I live in Bucks County and am just over an hour from EWR and about 1:30 from JFK and LGA when there is no traffic. The early reports mean I drive in before traffic gets heavy. During the day or bad weather all bets are off and it's taken me 3:30 to get in. Most of the time it's 2 hours to the lot doing the speed limit.
When I'm on short call I have my bag packed and all ready to go even though I am well within the limits to get to EWR. I have had a few calls to "get here as soon as you can" but it's rare and I'll get there when I get there.
All that being said, we're moving back home to Tennessee this summer and I'll be commuting to somewhere. If you're looking for a house that's within short call limits of NYC and in a great school district, I know where you can find one :-)
