You and I are both domesticated, it's the international guys who pee on your couch if you invite them over. Jerks.

Honestly the 88 or 320 NYC would be pretty easy as far as RSV. When you have a short call day, you can use the first 2 hours of the period as part of your commute. So basically any SC period from 6AM on is commutable. You can also get released 2 hours early on the back end of the SC period. The US Airways shuttle runs til about 9PM I believe.

I was a DC commuter, the BOS shuttle would be a similar commute. The JFK options for BOS are much greater than what DC has. So someone that does that commute would have to chime in.

The only problem I noticed was the trip construction. There is a ton of trips that have early sign ins or late check outs on the 88. I think the same is with the 320.

If you don't mind the JFK reports, the 737 trip construction seems to have tons of trips the end in red-eyes, and quite a few later reports.

I'm sure the BOS commute is the same as DC. When on JFK reports, typically I commute into LGA and cab over. Usually there are quite a few crew members on the commute to the Marine terminal and you can split the fare with them. The Kew Gardens cab usually has one waiting at the terminal. Gerneral Cab also has a crew rate around $18.50. With Boston you have the luxury of having mainline flights to JFK and also JetBlue whereas the DC commuters have to deal with RJs.

Other planes would work in NYC as well, but the 320 and 88 tend to have more LGA reports. the ER and 737 tend to have JFK reports.

You'll probably hold a line quicker on the 88.

If you have more questions feel free to PM me. Hope this helps
That is some great info. I am a poolie who lives somewhat locally to NYC , I currently fly a 76ER so it is tempting bc it would be an easy transition. The 737 sounds like the next best seeing as JFK is much easier to get to for me than LGA and the Boeings tend to all be similar from a training standpoint Thanks again!

Short answer is whenever the company want. Sometimes its only once a year or so. Lately, however, they have been much more frequent and most expect that to continue. So I'd guess you would be able to move bases (assuming you could hold the seat in question of course) in only a couple months give or take.

DKR also. I have been there 3 times and have never seen a mosquito. It's a nice layover and generally goes senior so if you don't want to go it's very easy to avoid.

Right now if you'd prefer a lot of 4 days, the 88 is the place to go. Not many on the 717. That will change. The company won't let you have, as I do next month, a 70 hour line with 25 hours of flying for very .

Hey FTB, just wondering how most guys like flying the 717 compared to MD88?? I hear a lot of power, all the magic (vnav, etc) works better?? Do you think the 717 will finally unseat some FO's from the widebodies?

Be interesting to see how junior, or senior the plane will go for CA once all the planes arrive!

I hope so but not holding my breath. Most WB FO's have already passed up on MD88 A & 320 A.

There have been 11 advance entitlements posted since Aug of 2012. In slow times it might be one per quarter.

If by wide bodies you mean the 777, I can explain what is going on. The top half of the FOs were either 737 or 7er captains. The bottom half were 737/m88a or in pursuit of QOL as FOs.

The most junior are slowly leaving for 73Na or 320a but not en masse. I don't know of any that have left for m88a or 717a.

A large, large number are waiting for 330A or something that flies international.

Sorry, it is what it is. I bet Timbo hears this stuff all the time.

How many days do you get to decide what base/equipment you want to bid from the start of indoc?

Caveat, I've only flown the -88.

IMO, the limiting factor is the quality of the trips. Most guys that are flying anything other than the M88 or 717 and "maybe" the 320 currently, are enjoying a "little" bit better QOL trips than what is afforded on the 717 or M88 (lots of legs, hub turns, short overnights, limited geographical areas).

I was on the -88 for 3 years and didn't mind it at all when I was on it (came from the regionals and didn't know any different). Then I got on the ER and now on the 737. I shudder to think about going back to some of those trips (or flying the -88)! Believe me, I'd be a lot more senior on those aircraft, but that seniority doesn't buy me any QOL improvement (as I see it).

I'm holding off down bidding....

For the junior captains, there will always be guys that will upgrade ASAP. Those will be the takers. How junior it goes will depend on whether or not they open NYC717 (which I imagine they will). I'd say with the retirements coming up, that eventually, the -88 and 717 will go fairly junior for the most junior captain in NYC. Maybe in the 80% range on the seniority list? Maybe 85% in 7-8 years when there is massive turnover and you can get anything you want quickly? Who knows ?
