Looking at the Projected Category List for August of 2014 (it was run on 24th of Feb)

New Hires are already bidding different bases within the same equipment.

Ex:
DTW 320 B (like I have to put a B) has 5 new hires in that position, it was not offered until the 3 March class (after this document was created)

So, take domicile info with a grain of salt, especially after AE's have been run.

But, impressive that you are keeping track of all this info.

I have closed these small holes and made sure my employment periods start and end the same days. Did anyone have a similar problem? I wouldn't worry too much about it. I had three of those emails and received a call about a month later. Other guys received them and are still waiting well past a month. When I didn't hear anything after a month, I sent an email saying I fixed two things, and couldn't figure out what the third one meant. I know it said not to reply, but after a month I figured I had nothing to lose. I received an invite a few days later…not sure if it was due to my email or not, but 1) follow up, and 2) don't worry since you have no control over it.

Some questions for guys on property...

A buddy at dal (non-flying) mentioned that there is a special deal to get a will done by an attorney at a substantially reduced rate. Any knowledge of this?

Has anyone with a wife and 3 kids done an analysis of the silver vs gold hsa plans?

Is the long term disability insurance paid before or after tax?

1. This is old (3-4 years ago, but I think it's still abailable) - A free will preparation service is offered by Hyatt Legal Plans, a MetLife company, as part of MetLife's insurance services. This service provides eligible employees, retirees and their spouse/domestic partner with access to an attorney who participates in the plan for preparing or updating a will at no charge. All pilots who are eligible for company-provided basic life insurance are eligible for this MetLife service. For more information, check out the Will Preparation Fact Sheet under the Life and Other Insurances webpage on the Health & Insurances webpage on the Employee Connection portion of the DeltaNet. If you have questions about this service, please contact Hyatt Legal Plans toll-free at 800-821-6400

2. Most guys do the gold but it depends on your specific situation

3. I'd have to look at LTD. I honestly don't remember off the top of my head. It pays 50% of what you were making when you went out (there is a formula.) We also have DPMA (Delta Pilots Mutual Aid) which is basically like group self insurance. It will top off your LTD to bring you up to roughly 100% for up to a year for a single event. You have up to 24 months (so you could theoretically have 2 12-month periods at 100%) of benefit during your career for DPMA. It's voluntary and paid with after tax dollars. Something like 99% of all delta pilots participate. You have to choose when you're hired and if you decline you can never re-enroll. It is highly recommended.

Just to be clear at Delta the long term disability is funded by the company. You don't pay anything. You can as mentioned in the above post plus that up by purchasing Delta pilot mutual aid. It is post tax money however that means the benefit is tax free. It's cheap and most pilots opt in.

DPMA seems like a great system over all, although I'm a little bit miffed that they raised the dues specifically because there were exponentially more age 60-65 claims even though they got to pay into it at age 60 actuarial rates the whole time. So now that one group uses it on the way out and the entire pilot group has to may more for their entire careers. They needed to raise the dues proportionate for that one time group and then slowly raise them on everyone as the actuarials caught up.

Other than that its a good system, although I'd like to see more options for a LTD bridge plan than what ALPA offers. Something to bring the long term total up to at least 2/3, and it should be ALV or something like that. You shouldn't be rewarded or punished for a decade or two just because you picked up or dropped some trips for 6 months or a year leading up to a LTD event. That doesn't make any sense to calculate it that way.

As someone who was out for 9 months after surgery, you would be foolish not to participate in DPMA. That along with LTD, I was bringing home pretty much the same money as when I was working.

Thanks for all the info and clarification! If anyone has chosen the silver hsa plan it would be great if you could share your math.

Also, the to clarify the DPMA, is it true that it is capped at 24mos of disability?

I just found the pdf in the section you referenced and it is still the same. What a great benefit.

Does anyone know what the monthly premiums are for the Gold HRA plan? Just curious.
