April Crew Resources newsletter. Came out today. Says they have approval for 50 per month through APR 2015. Also says that the hiring and training departments will be at full capacity for the next 10 to 20 years.

That's cool, but is only one more class beyond what was already slated. Will Flt Ops have to seek and get approval for each and every single class from now on? That seems way higher profile than just opened ended hiring. If anything, just issue an etherial blanket statement like AMR did (5000 pilots in 10 years to cover attrition, etc) and then do what you want on a moth to month/year to year basis. No one will pay attention to accelerated hiring for a year or three in that scenario. Wall Street isn't tracking every class. But they could if we keep making an official BOD deal out of them all.

Gloopy I think you have your years mixed up it says 50/month until April 2015 not 2014. The official word until this letter came out was only 300 pilots total. To me that looks like about 600 additional pilots more than the 300 already announced and it did say that through attrition and aircraft deliveries that they expect the training pipeline to stay full for the next 10-20 years.

If you are a Delta pilot you can read it on the crew resources April newsletter. I'm an 00 hire and always waiting for the other shoe to drop since that is how it's been for the last/lost decade, however I think that we are definitely on the way up.

Yep. It is an entire year of 50 a month above what they already announced. We had announced 50 a month to April this year and this is an additional year or 600 more than already announced. That is what all the rumors have stated so now it's official. Good news for sure. Let's hope that 10-20 year period of the training pipeline being full comes true.

Oh, then yes I misread that. Thanks!

Heck I'm still writing 2013 on my checks so if I actually did read that right it would have seemed like 2 years!

Gloppy, to try and inject some cheer into the hiring process 150 of the first 300 pilots hired were senior to anyone hired after 06. The next 600 will all be junior. Bids put out late summer for fall classes will be surprisingly junior and then the 330 training will start adding even more movement. In addition the company is stating there will be another widebody RFP by the end of the year, something not previously planned until 2017.

2014 PILOT HIRING

With the 717 and 739 deliveries continuing in 2014, we recently received approval to continuing hiring pilots at a rate of approximately 50 a month through April 2015. Over the past 6 months, the new hire team has been building the hiring pool, and off the street pilots are currently being brought in, along with flow up pilots.

We continue to look forward and we are building our business case for 2015 and beyond. Based on new aircraft deliveries (330s starting in 2015 and 321s in 2016) and age 65 pilot attrition, the hiring and training programs will be at near full capacity for the next 10 to 20 years.
