600 hires... 800 retires....

I went to Tennessee, but even I don't have to take off my shoes to do THAT math.

There are 423 scheduled retirements in 2019. About 55 of those are on disability leaving the number of pilots that need to be replaced at about 368.
There are 531 retirements planned in 2020 including disabled pilots.

I gotta ask......What is the number of pilots the company is planning on for retirements in those 2 years? I thought I heard something like 600 for 2019.

There is always a significant number more that retire in a given year than the age 65 numbers.

Pretty sure Crew Resources drew attention to your very point with regard to the published A350 Capt vacancies in the AE cover letter.

I think that number is a moving target. I think the panicked a bit when they had a surge in early outs with the 350 transition. I hear now they plan for 10% above the scheduled number.
I suspect the 350 debacle will lead to continued higher than planned retirements in that category as pilots realize they are taking a pay cut to continue working.

The only real question is "will they bypass me." OFG

If the past 2 years any indication:
994 left the seniority list regardless of status and age (Nov2016-Nov2018)
216 turned 65 in 2016
274 turned 65 in 2017
407 turned 65 in 2018

I think the company figure is 65 number + 40% for a given year.

So if 428 will turn 65 in 2019, plus 50 for the rest of the 2018, plus 40% = the Tennessee guy can do the math

You make more $ quitting than you do flying a couple 350 trips every month?
