Exactly. All the majors have someone 55-62 in every class or two, based on the reports here. Early 50s is common. Average age seems to be running early 40s.

This is unscientific based upon what is posted here.

Default Age

I see it a little differently at Delta. I was the oldest in my class at 50. I looked back pretty far and 50 and older was pretty rare (about every 5 or 6 classes). With the very occasional 60ish year old. About two times per year but definitely does happen. I think the average age is closer to 35 with so many 25ish year olds bringing down the average.

I was told that the average new hire is 38 years old with 6000 hours. We had a guy in his mid-50's in my class. Good guy and got 88A at ~month 6 at the company.

When I was hired 4 years ago it was around 43. Look at the seniority list and it’s fairly obvious that it’s getting younger and younger.

While the average may be dropping, that doesn't mean older than the average pilots are experiencing lower success rates.

Sounds like Delta may have younger hires than the other majors.

Here is the current AA class as reported:

Ages 26-55. Median age 42.

Here what the SW thread reported:

As already stated, there are a handful of people under 30. Most classes the youngest is 33-34ish though, with a spread up to upper 50’s and occasionally 60’s.

Also, someone with SW did a count on the seniority list. Only about a dozen pilots in their 20s. All were hired in the last year.

Two guys from my alma mater were recently hired at Delta. Both 23 years old. No, not kidding.

And guess what. They aren't the first 23 year olds either.
