Oh, don't get me wrong...BELIEVE me I know it's not the norm. I've been to several and haven't gotten a call. I have a very good resume, typically hit it off well with the recruiters and they typically tell me they don't understand why I haven't been called. Meh...
But saying they are a total scam or waste of time I think is also an overstatement. My friend who is now at DAL that I mentioned earlier had zero turbine PIC. Long time at Comair...but he was one of the 10% (if that is a correct number) that got in the door for spending a couple hundred bucks. Also someone mentioned Alaska...another guy I work (worked) with is now there specifically because of attending one of the job fairs.
But, I've paid my money (again) and will be going to OBAP here in a week. If nothing else I get to run into folks I haven't seen in years...it's happened every time. And if it means I get to be one of the 10%ers out of the group even better. For me it's hard to justify not spending $200 for a ticket when it could be the golden ticket that lands me a multi-million dollar career at my carrier of choice.
For those of you that have spotless apps and get the call without attending good on ya...I wish I was in that group. But since I've had my apps in with everyone since 08 (excluding AA since they are new to the party) and have yet to get a call I'm doing any and everything I can to get the odds tipped in my favor and have first hand experience and knowledge that sometimes the job fair is the trigger.

[QUOTE=John Carr;1945320]2000 seems high? What was the attendance at JUST WAI for 2013 and 2014, NOT counting 2015? Would you be surprised if it was almost 2000 by itself? That would exclude OBAP, NGP, and whatever else.
And that's an obvious given that DOESN'T need to be stated. I put it in quotes for a reason.......
I'm not disagreeing with you here. Somewhere there's an exact number comprised of total conference attendees minus everyone but the pilot job seekers minus those with a rec.
I have no clue on the exact number....but it doesn't matter. People will choose to go or not. I felt it was worth the money to speak with reps from the companies.

I started with Delta 6-9 months ago, but I've tried to keep up with the latest that's going on with hiring. A guy I know up at the squadron showed me an e-mail he received from the hiring department this week. It said, "Thanks for your service. We would like to offer you an interview now, but we know you have a military commitment right now. When you are 90 days out from being available, please call us and we will set up your interview." He is about a year out from being available.
Has anyone else ever received one of these, or even heard of them? This was a first for me. Either way....if you're delaying sending in your app because you think your availability date is too far away.....you're probably wrong. Get your app in now!

It also stated that successful candidates are typically offered a class date within 45-60 days of the CJO. I guess when the training center gets back up to full speed that will be the case again.
I totally agree with getting an application as soon as one can. It's a very detailed process with a lot of opportunities for minor errors. But once you have everthing in place then all you have to do is update your flight times every couple of weeks.

I know of another military person receiving the same type of email. Theirs stated that they were selected for an interview but would receive the actual invite 60-90 days from availability.

Interesting. Here at the regionals I'm still flying with military guys/gals that have quite the credentials. One for example a ret. Colonel with about 4k heavy time from the mil. He's been with us for almost a year and recency of experience is up. Another guy a KC-135 2,200 hrs - IP, Safety, etc. but neither has heard anything. Just wondering what spectrum it is that some are getting the invite so far out and yet available guys are hearing crickets.

No one knows for certain, but if Delta is inquiring about Military pilots that are still months away from their availability dates, the pool of those available is most definitely shrinking, and fast.
Keep your applications up to date, and edit them for perfection.

My buddy in the hiring department told me they are slowing down for the next 60 days. Problem is when they get someone blow the foot print with sim time limited they can't re-train for 30 to 90 days! Guys sitting around because they needed a little help. After the 60 period they're going back to 90 a month. They going to run new hires every week, not the 2 classes a month foot print.

If they are doing this with the military guys what does this mean? I.E. The pot of mil guys is drying up?

All this means is those mil pilots scored high enough on the app board that they are competitive with the current group of interview selects. Delta is just not interviewing mil guys with commitments a long way out like they used to. e.g. One guy I interviewed with in 2013 was not available for almost a year. The company didn't mind having a protracted pool then...apparently they don't do that now.
I agree that the current build up of a pool is temporary. It'll thin out quickly once the training department goes back to normal throughput. Sucks for the guys caught in the pool who are anxious to move on...

Just a curious question for you pool guy's/gal's. If you were offered a class date at another carrier like United, AA, FedEx, UPS etc. (assuming you had a CJO from one) before offered a class date with DAL, would you take it. If so, would you leave there when DAL offered you a class date?
