I think the whole point of mental math questions on the test is to ensure pilots are able to double-check whether what the Honeywell or Collins is doing is reasonable. That said, this one is a pretty goofy question with little real world applicability. Curious if it's actually on the test or where the poster got it from.

Turn radius for a 30 degree bank angle ~ mach minus 2 or 10% of Ground Speed. Roughly double that for 15 degrees. So, 3nm turn for 30 degrees at 300Kts (actual math formula is closer to 2.5, but you asked for ROT), 6 for 15 (again, closer to 5).
60:1 as described in earlier post tells us rough diameter of turn is 13.3NM, so turn radius is about 7 (6.7, but rounded up because you're making a 220 degree turn and I have 7 fingers I can count, but have a tough time counting 6.7).

I'm glad we had these tests. If DAL hiring were to instead insert me into a realistic simulation where I have to taxi the jet from the gate to the runway I'd have failed for sure. I figure there is a 10% chance of me actually getting to key the mic to get out of the ramp. 50% chance I'll understand my clearance once it is passed to me, 50% chance I read back what I think I heard, and 25% chance I'll hear my callsign when ground calls to change my clearance. By my math that's like a 6% chance of successfully taxiing once I can finally get a word in edge-wise. I'd be flying rubber dogshlt out of Hong Kong if that had been the test.

So, this is in complete concurrence w/ above, but since there are fewer decimals you can do it with your weight-on-arse switch engaged :
- "Lead" radials: 40 radials @ 3 rad per DME (60/1 @ 20DME) is slightly more than 13nm
- ROT for turn radius = 1%GS for 1/2 SRT (25°) gives ~ 6.0nm diameter for 180°
- Divide in half to get ~ 12.0nm ==> 12.5°
- Milk it a a little for the additional degrees of turn (outbound to inbound), yielding something less than 12°
If absolutely necessary, you can do this on the back of a soggy bar napkin...but hopefully you don't need it. And yes, it assumes no wind.

How are guys filling out the address section in the employment history for deployments to Al Udeid Airbase?
Also under address I have been putting the name of the Squadron I was assigned to at each base instead of a street address. Is that kind of the standard for listing your assignments under employment history?
