Mike, to answer your question Delta is WAY BEHIND the power curve when it comes to hiring. Two weeks ago I had a client who interviewed, was offered a CJO, and now is in a late August class. I had a couple of SSP clients interview yesterday (7 out of 8 hired yesterday, all SSP candidates) and their class date is in the fall. They are being held back because of staffing needs at Endeavor.

If Delta sees a pilot they like, they will hire them regardless of class availability. If there isn't a class date you will be put you in a hiring pool. Worse case scenario is a class date this fall.

I think the best think for you to do in the next week is drop APC from your life. Don't worry about every little detail you hear from the internet. Start studying for the tests. Start preparing for the HR interview. You need to show HR who you are beyond your piloting skills.

Secondly, this ain't Vance, or CBM, or wherever we have UPT bases now. Its a whole new endeavor. My advice is to tone it down a notch and listen. Almost all of the guys opining here are senior, and some, will be very senior to you if you get the offer. Chain of command won't matter any more.

You've got the flying chops, now you gotta prove you've got the CRM, good pilot, fun-to-be-with chops. Whole 'notha level. IMO, quit sweating the small stuff and take in the important stuff. You're first push in ATL or JFK will rock your world....if you're fortunate enough.

And, to your question, no. If you're hired, you're hired. The projected monthly training date is just that, what the schoolhouse can absorb. You'll get a training date. We have 12,000 pilots who are going through same said schoolhouse doing our 9-month recurrent training, transitioning to other equipment, requaling in same equipment, etc. You've never seen anything like it.

Good luck!

And, its Delta Air Lines. F that up, and you're done.
Thanks for the reply and great advice. I could have just as easily made my post without the 1st paragraph, nothing like the stress of moving an interview up 3 weeks to make me a little jumpy.

But I'm such an addict . I appreciate the information, I haven't interviewed for a job since I was a college student and to say I have any real understanding of how the airline hiring process is conducted would be a gross overstatement. Now back to the books...

Also, as a military pilot, would you be willing to fly a CRJ900/E175 if the plane was at mainline?
This is an interesting question. As a military pilot, I am in the Guard, I would fly them if they were paid on the Delta scale. Hopefully as a captain, but as a 2010 hire that would probably be awhile.

I have talked to a bunch of guys about this. Almost all would exept for one. He was former civ and he said he didn't make it to mainline to fly RJs again.

I know Delta cares about HS grades, but if I went to four different high schools do I need to list each one individually, or should I just list my graduating high school and the corresponding GPA?

I'm confused were you a military pilot or a guard pilot? Just kidding but had to take the shot.

Delta new hires are all top notch regardless of background.
It's a pleasure to fly with new guys.

One fun game is guessing thieir background without asking.
A tried and true discriminator is the old airspeed trick or some variant.
When ATC says slow to 210 knots you just reach up and set 211 in the window.
You can usually tell by the FO's reaction whether he was Navy, Air Force or civilian. Sometimes you can even tell their rank.

The Navy guy reaches up and helps you out by spinning it to 215?

Ha!

Navy guy-sets 215
AF guy- does some nerdy crap and calculates exactly why the capt wants to go a kt fast
Civ guy- does nothing because he knows it is no big deal and is tired of putting up a fight due to life at the regionals
Guard guy- asks if the capt want the sports page

I think you should be more concerned about the story you're going to have to tell, as to why you were thrown out of 4 different high schools!

Hint: "Because I got Hi" is not a good excuse.

It might be true, but don't bring it up in the interview!
