Plus, know WHY you want Delta. If you have other irons in the fire, and you want Delta, you need to explain why you want Delta.
They've got 10,000s of apps. Have fun with it.

Rumor from pilot going through SLI training: Hiring up to 1,500 in 2015.
But it's just a rumor as far as I can tell, and would need a change in current interview tempo. 8 applicants/interview, 4 interviews/week, 10 months/year, with a 75% selection rate is "only" about 1k/yr.
Still, I like rumors like that.
Oh, and how 'bout that AE? That might could shake some things up a bit in the next few months!

That's always the case with mergers. But so what. Does that mean once an airline merges, all interviews should be done away with and class dates filled by randomely drawing names out of a hat?

What? I heard they ask that in the interview.

Of course not. I observe a lot of Delta pilots constantly reiterating how high and exacting their standards are when in reality a large percentage of the Delta pilot group has never been evaluated to that standard. Same with the college degree requirement: required for some applicants but not for others.

I'm one of the biggest critics of "Big Ed" and its generational multitrillion dollar scams. I'm in favor of it for airline pilots though, because its a barrier to entry that controls the supply and drives up the price of labor. Not quite AMA cartel style, but its something. We (pilots) don't really control that gateway though, so its not really up to us, other than the feedback we give shaping the interview process (which is actually pretty significant, as it should be).
I'm absolutely against the back room treachery of a secret "vault letter" though, and would love to see something like that challenged and eventually eliminated.
And your point that a "large percentage" of DL pilots haven't gone through the interview standard is still a false premise to base your argument on. The merger doesn't count, because mergers don't count for that ever. Besides NWA had a tough interview and selection process, and argueably one of the toughest paths for a new hire to the line of anywhere. But again, mergers don't count for your point.
The number of total pilots without a degree at DL is a very, very low percentage.

Guys, did a moderator not 10 posts ago tell you to take it elsewhere? This is Delta hiring news thread, not debate the requirement for a college degree or evaluate the quality of current Delta pilots thread. Please, with a cherry on top, go somewhere else and quit trashing this thread.
On topic, I got an email offering me an earlier interview date and I took it -- now interviewing 28 July. This brings up what I hope is a really stupid and paranoid question. Hypothetically, if Delta is authorized to hire 80 pilots a month, and by the time I interview they've already hired 79, are their hands tied on the number of people they can give a CJO?

Also, as a military pilot, would you be willing to fly a CRJ900/E175 if the plane was at mainline?
