You misunderstand the statement. I'm not saying welfare pays $70K, it doesn't, not even close. However, in the private sector you have to work a job that makes $70K to get the same benefits of a welfare recipient, and that's a true statement. Unless that college degree is going to get you six figures plus, it isn't worth it.

Do you feel the same way about High School? Trigonometry, Calculus, Chemistry, ect.? You are right. I don't use them.

How abut K-8? Dumb science projects, Spelling Bee's, and gym. (Thank God, today we have spell check.)

I mean, I had to go -- both of my parents were teachers. Gotta put food on the table, ya know.

But, at what point did formal education stop being worth the time, for you? Just wondering.

I don't know anyone on welfare. Even my non college friends have jobs and families and get by. I know it varies state by state and it's not an unlimited gravy train in most states. How does your average welfare recipients compensation package add up to $70K? Other than food stamps and section 8 housing allowance, what else are they getting? Any why aren't homeless people taking advantage of this $70K compensation package?

These are the max payout amounts. If you don't have kids you you can cut those #'s in 1/2 Your average Joe isn't going to come close to those #'s. Also, staying on welfare isn't very easy in most states. It's like being on probation and you have to report in frequently and show that you are attempting to find work. Just like your skewed view on college, your views on welfare don't have much merit either.

Wow, the cash payouts are even higher than I thought. Michigan alone has over 20 welfare programs, the amount of assistance is crazy. The medical assistance alone is worth $20K(remember, we buy insurance, they don't have insurance, so it's straight cash savings, which, can easily run into the hundreds of thousands), cheaper loans, property tax forgiveness, free education, the list goes on and on. Yeah, they don't get $70K in cash, I never said they did. Don't even get me started on the amount of corporate welfare there is.

Those are not the cash pay outs. They are the pre tax equalivanents of their total welfare benefit package. Again Mesabah, you don't get it. Next!

I live in Idaho and can guarantee you that people on welfare are getting way more than what that chart shows. I know for a fact that family with at least 3 children gets more than that just in cash and food stamps. Not sure how accurate your chart is.

I just went to the Cato website, where you got the chart. The chart has a disclaimer on it, what does it say: "actual benefit levels available to
a welfare family may be somewhat higher than this study indicates.

Really, it's most formal education now, the system is severely broken.
