Delta Hiring News

Ask some of the Minny based ex NWA pilots how well that has worked out for them after the merger. Ask all the Dallas based pilots and FAs how that's working out for them. There are no absolutes and you never know how the airline is going to look 10 or 20 years from. You need to be prepared to commute for a while if you want to make it. From my class there are a number of guys who moved to Atlanta and were furloughed 15 mos later and were forced to commute to NYC after their return before they could get back to Atlanta. If you're not prepared for some sort of sacrifice at some point in your airline career then you are probably getting into the wrong business.

On a totally separate note, I'd like the airbus NYC. I notice its gaining popularity. As a junior guy in my class of 50, should I expect that it wont even be available for me to select?

haha. he's probably just hearing it through word of mouth. Although anyone who truly cares about being a DAL pilot is doing their due diligence. I don't know if it matters that a 24-25 year old is getting hired, I'd probably be focusing my attention on which aircraft and base I can hold, report/release times for commuting, reserve staffing, quality of trips etc. Maybe we can help this individual refocus their efforts in the right direction to help prepare better.

The last NYC 320 went to number 40 of 50 in our class (we only had 11 assigned so other 9 must have gone to holdback pool). The 717s all went in the top 20 and seemed very popular for those wanting to be based in ATL--??? as one person pointed out the 717 will fly to every "ville" and "berg" within 600 miles of ATL. 737s were the next to go and the last 10 fought over the ATL and NYC 88s with only the last 4 having to take NYC. Seemed like many were very focused on location over aircraft which worked in favor for those of us willing to go to a junior base so that we could hold a line on the aircraft of choice.
The training pipeline is driving what aircraft can be released to each class so imagine with the big classes there will be some cycles if certain sims get backed up. For example we didn't have any ERs so wouldn't be surprised to see them for this next class. Sim dates for most of us start in 1-3 weeks but a few platforms have folks waiting over a month (88s).
Didn't see any late night or early AM sims on the sched but that may be a reality in the coming months for new hires as the sim machine gets into motion and hiring stays steady. My sched is straight 5 days on and 2 days off for entire sim period but others aren't as predictable. Also many of us are working right through 4th of July holiday.
I've also been able to book positive space for all my 2-day breaks.

Thanks gr8vu! I'm going to be very junior in my class, probably around 45 or worse based on my SSN. I will for sure get NYC, I'm not too worried about that. But I need to start mentally preparing myself for the md88
